Ok so I’m a lefty (in splits) and my split is like a few inches of the ground. You may think that sounds alright in your head but if you saw it in person you would be like ’‘oh yeah that needs work’’. Any techniques that will help me get them down faster? I stretch for like 8 minutes every time before i get into it and when I get up and walk around for a minute I come back and it is more off the ground then where I left off. So please help me and i will be really grateful! Thanks so much!

Yikes! I wish I had advice, but I am about two feet from the ground when I try and I am not flexible in the least bit. I agree with @chyna. I think it also just takes practice.
Good luck :) keep trying! If you get even more flexible you’ll have your feet wrapped around your head in no time at all.

Well if Nastia doesn’t help you(the tips are at the end of the video) then you can try this yahoo question that asks the same thing. The answers seem pretty good.

Hope you get it down :)

How long are you holding the stretch? I finally got my splits by holding the stretch for at least five minutes. Hold it and concentrate on your breathing. In through your nose, out through your mouth. With every breath feel the muscle relaxing and feel yourself sinking deeper into the stretch. Don’t push it and @chyna I’m really sorry don’t bounce on a stretched muscle. Also, do not have anyone push you into the stretch.

Thanks @SuperMouse . I’ve probably injured the poor girl for life. Oh nos.

@chyna I’m sure she will be just fine!

never bounch or bob when you’re stretching, you could put huge ammounts of stress on the muscle causing a tear or other injuries. i would agree with supermouse in that you need to breath in and out very slowly and deeply. what i used to do when i did taekwondo was get two cushions that slide well on a wooden or tile floor and put one cushion under each foot when you do the splits so the cushions will slowly slide outwards helping you become more flexible and will slowly stretch out the muscle more consistently.

this is coming from the most inflexible gymnast you will ever meet. Find a stool that is about a foot of the ground. Put your front foot on top of it and slide into your splits as far as you can go. Hold it for 3 minutes. It will hurt. Definitly. But the split will be down almost instantly. Thats what happened to me!!!
good luck and stay strong!
