Well, NAT can be complicated to set up depending on your router. What I would do, is find the IP address of your 360, and make it the DMZ. That should fix your problems. I would hope.

It may not be your router. Check you firewall whitelist.

It’s not hooked into the computer. All we have set up is 2 xbox’s and a router to connect them. It’s worked for Halo 3 no problem but we can only play 5–10 minutes on Saints Row before one of the games disconnects or freezes

@pdworkin I’m sorry, like I said I’m not too keen on all of the terms. I looked up on the net what our problem was and it said the NAT settings and a whole bunch of letters and numbers that could fix it. It’s like trying to read chinese to me :). If that’s not the problem I’ll look for a different solution.

Ok, the set up we have is 1 xbox is in the basement and the other 1 is in the living room. We have 2 ethernet cables, each run from 1 xbox into a linksys router. We have had this set up since Halo 3 came out and it has worked fine for that game, but SR2 just is being a pain about it.

As for the Xboxes, 1 is a year old with a game that is about 5 months old (no scratches, xbox well venilated) My xbox is about 3 months old and I just bought the game Saturday (well venilated, our basement is climate controlled so it’s not musty or at risk of too much humidity)

Interesting. Are you starting a multiplayer xbox live game or a local game for Saints Row?

@pdworkin, @Daisygirl: You don’t really need a software firewall. The router already acts as a firewall. The DMZ option, if your router supports it, is made for that type of scenario and is the least complicated way of resolving your NAT issue.

@andrew a local game. we both live in the same house, we’re not connecting to the internet in any way possible.

I don’t know if this makes any difference or not, but as I was going through some of the options I found a spot to “name host” or something like that and so I put my name in and we didn’t have any problems last night.

@rMacker83 If it messes up tonight I will check out that website, but with it working ok right now I don’t want to tempt it lol

NAT settings or DMZ, then, will have no effect on your game. NAT settings are only for communicating from devices on your local network to devices on the internet, and since you don’t need to talk to the internet at all, NAT won’t help you.

One thing to check is if you can still play a local game if you unplug your router from your modem (so your router isn’t connected to the internet). If that’s the case, then it’s just buggy Saints Row.

@andrew yeah the router isn’t anywhere near the internet, since we have an alltel internet card xbox live won’t work on it period, so we disconnected it all about a year ago. Must be just Saints Row being buggy. Thanks for the info ya’ll, now that I know that all the acronyms associated with xbox live don’t apply to me, I guess were at the mercy of the game :)

You said you were behind a Linksys router and you know the password right? Okay so log in to your router (192.168.1.1) and hit the ’‘Administration’’ tab and make sure the ’‘Upnp’’ option is checked. If it was previously unchecked restart your Xbox. That should resolve the detection of devices on a local network. Otherwise, it could be a number of things. Did that help?

@rMacker83 I’ll have to hook it up to the computer for that right? If that’s the case I’ll have to wait until my husband gets home and has time to link things up. He did all of the set up and the way things are done, it looks like a giant rats nest of wires that HE knows where and what they go to but nobody else does (hee hee) anyways, I will try that and report back what I find :)
