Pretty self-explanatory, I was talking to a friend and he said when he yawns he can’t hear anything. When I yawn I can hear perfectly. How about you?

I can’t hear anything when I yawn. Which is precisely the reason I do it so much.

I can hear perfectly well. I never thought of this until now… odd.

I can usually hear, but I think sometimes my ears pop while I’m yawning. Maybe that’s what’s happening with your friend, too.

I just yawned really big and could hear just fine.

DominicX's avatar

I can hear, but it’s lesser. That’s why I hate when I yawn during the best part of a song, because I end up not hearing it very well. So, I just rewind it. :)

Yep I hear perfectly still, there is no escaping…

I can hear my jaw clicking. Is that bad?

sjmc1989's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities I hope not! mine do too You probably just have rusty jaws like me from sharing your opinions so much.

Sounds are muffled when I yawn

Sarcasm's avatar

Wait.. you mean that your friend can’t hear external noises (music playing, people talking)? Or that he can’t hear noises inside his head?

I can hear both when I yawn.

Dr_C's avatar

@Sarcasm are the voices in your head louder when you yawn?

Sarcasm's avatar

Yes, and angrier. I can’t resist what they tell me to do when I’m yawning.

@clioi

Same with me. Sounds are muffled. We can’t be the only ones…

I was beginning to wonder if this has anything to do with my freakish ear canals. Apparently they’re like angled upward or something. My doctor had to like bend down and look up to see inside them that time I couldn’t hear out of my right ear. Ear drops always fall out because of it. I’m a freak. :(

It’s a little muffled. I also hear a little bit of crackling.

I can still perfectly hear, but when I tighten the muscles in my jaw (which happens when I yawn) it feels like my eardrums get stretched or something. When that happens it makes a humming//buzzing sound that overpowers outside sounds.

Try this sometime (cause we can all make ourselves yawn, right?) Have some music playing while you yawn, preferably something with a sustained note.

If you’re like me, you’ll notice the pitch dip slighty. Kinda like the Doppler effect.

I’m thinking that the eardrum itself moves away from the opening of the ear canal just a bit.

Ah…now i am yawning too much after reading this.
Anyhow, I can listen to the outside and a thick mmmmmm in my years too when i yawn
