If your state or country allows capital punishment, who chooses the executioner?

Is there some kind of interview or something they have to do. What exactly do you put in your resume to apply for a job like that, and would you want to do it?

My state has capital punishment, in extremely limited circumstances. Since they haven’t executed anyone since 1939, the state probably has no designated executioner.
