How would I create a website for my family buisness?

“Great Question” (0points)

last year we started a “farm” and built a barn and put up a fence and everything by ourselves. but we have alpacas, no they are NOT llamas. and we had ducks, which were unfortunatly killed by a wild animal.

my dad offered to pay me $200 to make a website for us, and he would pay for the website. I’m pretty good with computers, not amazing but I pick up stuff easily so I’m sure I could get the hang of it. I just don’t know where to start. or any good places to use that would help. any help would be appreciated:D thankks.

I hear nothing but good things about GoDaddy. Google it.

Do you only want static pages describing the farm or do you want dynamic stuff, like buying things?

The first is super easy, the second isn’t.

I can build you a website for $200, if you like it you can pay me via PayPal…. if not then on to the next webdesigner…

If interested, we can discuss it over the phone with no obligation whatsoever on your part.

If you don’t know HTML, this might be a little more challenging. Try finding a web host with a built in site builder. Maybe try Yahoo!‘s Site Builder. http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.php

well, what exactly do you want, thats the first thing you need to ask your self. what is the purpose of the site, what kind of information do you have, how do you want to display it etc…

once you have a rough idea of what you want then you can start to decide how what you need.

if its a small basic site, then yea go with what @Austinlad mentioned, you go over to godaddy, you get a domain and a basic hosting package, and you use their site builder to make what you want. i work in the site making business and i use godaddy and they have never let me down so far.

if you have more demanding needs i would say get your self a template, preferably with a CMS system too. if you dont want to get to tied up with it.

if you have even more demanding needs and/or want to do the thing your self from the ground up, you will need hosting and a domain, some software, and some knowledge of the following: HTML, CSS, javaScript, PHP, and if you want to do cool little animations, flash AS2 or AS3 for interactive animations, or some way of working with gifs and what not.

when you talk of $200 payments and what not, i say you want to go with godaddy and the site builder or some variation of that on some other site, maybe even a free site.

http://www.squarespace.com/ is pretty dope if you just want a simple pages. Super easy to build pretty pages with very little knowledge.

Please don’t use GoDaddy.. They support torture.

@johnpowell godaddy does what now?! reading

He (the owner of godaddy) posted a link to his blog on the frontpage of godaddy to his blog where he said gitmo was great and we needed more torture.

And he said shit about watching the tapes of 9/11 to keep him pissed off. Fours years after the fact.

@johnpowell are there any screenshots or records of this? other than that link. just all i can see on that particular link is talk, and talk is just talk really. and 1 caption of the title.

“close gitmo? no way!!! think our interrogation methods are tough? prisoners in the middle east talk quick, heres why”

and well, yes that does look like it could be bob saying pro torture things, or could just as easy be him making the case that torture is what happens in the middle east and that we dont torture. would need to see more, but i will look in to this.

i use godaddy for all my hosting and domain needs at the moment, and the service is great so far. but i will be looking in to this. and ill act depending on what exactly happened, what was said and how much of an owner vs spokes person bob parsons still is. if he just has a strong patriotic point of view im willing to let it slide, but if i find anything sick that i cant turn a blind eye too ill drop em.

I didn’t like godaddy for hosting. My old company used it. Their customer support wasn’t very good, their prices were pretty high, and I found their set up time consuming to maneuver around in. I have been with Dreamhost for several years now. Their prices are decent, their hosting is good. There are several things you will need to do to get a website up and running:

1. Decide whether a site like blogger.com or something will meet your needs – they provide hosting, and “stock” sites. If not, you can build one from scratch, but assuming you aren’t a programming guru, I’d recommend going with a Content Management System (CMS).

2. You will need to pick a CMS based on your needs. Drupal and Joomla are two of the most popular, but there are many others.

3. Once you pick a CMS, you need to figure out what the specs are to run it.

4. You can either set up a server yourself or pay someone to host your site for you. If you go the latter, that’s where sites like Dreamhost or GoDaddy come in. Make sure the host meets the specs of your chosen CMS.

5. You will need to figure out how to use the CMS you chose. I highly recommend picking a popular one if you are new to all this because that means more people are using it and more people will be available to answer your questions, and usually better documentation.

6. Finally you need to buy a domain name. Or you could buy one first.
