What music did you just listen to?

“Great Question” (5points)

I am really curious of what people here at fluther listen to.

I do not care the musical style, artist or whatever just give it to me ! :)

I am basically asking this question in attempt to help expand my musical ears and whats out there after discovering smooth jazz and classical music (Beethoven and Rachmaninoff for the most part)

anyways the idea is to tell me exactly the last song you just listened or maybe or listening to at this very moment! :)

also tell me about what other music you like artist/bands etc….you would recommend.

oh and tell a little as to why you like it, what does it do for you why this type of music compared to another?

Thanks as always flutheriers

What is love. I clicked on the “what is lurve” link that sends you to a repeating image of three guys dancing in a car while the song plays in the background.

I was also sent to the wikipedia narcissism page for trying to add myself to my fluther earlier.

fundevogel's avatar

Right now I’m listening to Parov Stelar because I just got the cd and I love modern takes on old fashioned music.

This moondog remix is also a fantastic example of this electronic jazz fusion thing.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@Steve_A I love Rachmaninoff! This song is one of my favorites composed by him.

I’ve been studying my history text, so in general, I listen to music without words because it’s less distracting.

I just listened to Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 2 in B major “To October”, Op. 14. It’s not for amateurs. :P

It’s his least-known symphony, it’s highly atonal and ominous (mostly in the first movement), and it concludes with a crazy choral piece and snare drum “riff”. I can’t imagine most people liking it, but I love it. :)

Before that, I was listening to “Little Red Riding Hood” by A-Moe, a Norwegian bubbledeath band, preceded by “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas.

I’m in my 50’s and my taste leans more towards indie music. I rarely listen to the music I grew up with. Right now, I’m listening to a shuffle of Guggenheim Grotto, The Magic Numbers and Camera Obscura. My other favorite list David Byrne, Talking Heads, Cake, Modest Mouse. In terms of classical music, I like Copland and Holst’s “The Planets”, and I love Gershwin, which crosses classical and popular music.

sjmc1989's avatar

You should try Ben Harper.

Svidrigailov's avatar

The Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs. It depends on the mood, of course. Usually it’s Nina Simone or Billie Holiday when I’m at home, but lately I’ve been totally nerding out about a rare demo copy of Harry Nilsson singing Without You that showed up on YouTube the other day.

Steve_A's avatar

@DominicX Hm interesting…do you play?

applesaucemanny's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities Good Rachmaninov choice. I can never which one I like best since all of his titles sound the same to me.

Passion Pit. I got excited to see that they’re coming to Cleveland.

fundevogel's avatar

@DominicX I used to listen to a lot of Apocalyptica when I had serious studying to do. But I gave up on them when they added a drummer and guitarist and started incorporating vocals. What can I say, I prefer my metal acoustic.

markyy's avatar

Death Cab for Cutie – 405 and the sound of myself breathing because these new headphones cancel out all outside noise.

Just listened to Welcome To The Black Parade – My Chemical Romance. Not quite sure why I like it, just have ever since it came out. Now listening to Seven Seas Of Rhye – Queen, Freddy Mercury’s voice is just epic. And after this the playlist will go on to either Devil In Disguise – Elvis Presley, or Son Of A Gun – Nirvana.

I got home and listened to songs by Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and Jackie Greene.

I seriously love Jackie Greene. He’s pretty amazing to me.

In the car last night on a 45 minute drive, I had a Stylistics album playing. Great chill out music.
This morning I put on my Journey CD while the kettle on and popped my bread in the toaster. (I didnt actually specifically choose this CD it was left in the player) but it’s still good.

Kool and The Gang…...............Celebrate.

I am an old rocker. listen to nothing but the oldies stations and i love Kool and The Gang’s music. john

john65pennington's avatar

Where have all the good songs gone? have songwriters lost their touch? what i am hearing on radio stations is just a loud noise. the songs have no meaning! give me back what we had in the 60s and 70s. songs that had meaning, songs that were about love and songs you could dance to. i like to snuggle and todays music has taken that away.

liliesndaisies's avatar

Chasing Pavements- Adele

OpryLeigh's avatar

@john65pennington You’re obviously not listening hard enough. I can think of many many great modern songs and singers. They may be different to what you grew up listening to but different doesn’t always mean bad. Alicia Keys for example, she is a personal favourite of mine because she writes some great songs all of which have meaning and great vocals and she is a talented musician. You can hardly say she is loud noise. There are many other talented singer/songwriters that I could mention that you would easily hear in the charts.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I just listened to a theme my nephew put together for his comedy sketch video. It’s him and one of his pals rapping a bit over some 70s-era Miles Davis.

scotsbloke's avatar

I was a Deejay for nigh on 20 years and all this talk of music has made me look out one of my favourite albums: Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds – The Artilleryman & The Fighting Machine is a particular favourite of mine and this one – Brave New World – but it’s all superb. If you don’t know it – I’d suggest you have a listen! you’ll love it! – if ever there was a great actor / narrator – it was Richard Burton!

@Steve_A

And no, I don’t play snare drum (though I’d love to), I play piano and electric keyboard.

shego's avatar

@DominicX you should see his playlist. It is awesome. :) He has introduced me to so much new music. I really like it.
