Actually, I’m sort of interested in this, as I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Consensus for us was that the water particles atomize the bad smell… sort of like aromatherapy where they use Eucalyptus in a steam bath. Add that to the confines and you’ve got a hot box of smellyness.

@gailcalled: I agree, the question could have been asked in a more…tactful… way.

@andrew; the question was actually clear, short and direct and made its point (except for “stank” as a noun.” I am simply getting exasperated, as I have said. Perhaps the new fluthers can be encouraged to fill out profiles so we know whom we are dealing w. (and how old he/she is.)

H2O, in the form of water vapor, easily attaches to methane molecules by the chlorine atom, or the sulfur released from bacteria, making the foul smell more readily attach to the nostril lining, subsequently sustaining the odor longer than in a dry climate. In addition, warm vapors will cause any crusted mucus to soften and disengage, providing more surface area within the sinuses. And lastly, (if you are male) the qualitive factor of “worse” is a perception of foreign gases – as to our own emissions, the qualitive factor is “better.”
