Would it be reasonable to wear a noncompulsory uniform everyday?

Einstein thought it wise to wear the same type of clothes everyday to save time on trying to figure out what to wear. Is this practical or does it just make you an eccentric oddball unlocking the mysteries of the universe?

Too hard to find 5 sets of matching everything in the Thrift Store. :-)

I would be bored by that. I enjoy a little variety.

My friend wears Polo shirts everyday. It’s not because he can’t figure out what to wear, it’s the opposite! He found something he loves, and sticks to it. I don’t think it’s weird, he has nice style and looks clean-cut. A+!

It’s not entirely practical, seeing as the variety of places one goes don’t all require the same level of formality of dress. Maybe if you were a person who only went to a few places or something… I dunno. I couldn’t do it, personally. I need to change up my look to match my mood, the weather, where ever I’m going, whatever color is appropriate, etc.

As well as getting bored, some days I need warmer clothes than others. I refuse to crank my furnace up!

I do. I wear a t-shirt and knit slacks every single day. I went through a period of wearing nothing but scrubs every day, but I get the t-shirts for free, so I quit buying scrubs.

In a corporate environment, men wear suits to work every day. If a guy wears a navy blazer, khakis and blue or white button down shirt with a tie, he could get a whole week’s worth of clothes for work out of two shirts and three ties. I’ve seen law school clerks and summer interns do that. Many women in our office wear some variation of a black suit every day.

I’ve never been stylish in my life. Comfort over flash. I wear khakis and polo shirts to work every day, and jeans and t-shirts on weekends and evenings. and a t-shirt at night, if that’s any of your business :-)

Well, that would be v e r y boring! Variety is the spice of life! Personally, i’m “hog heaven” with a golf shirt, shorts, and sneakers! It don’t get any better than that!

Seeing as I wear a uniform for work everyday I like to be a bit spontaneous when I have the chance to wear my own clothing. A uniform for my proffessional and private life would be rather boring!

I had a professor in college who also wore the same black T shirt and black jeans 365 days out of the year for the same reason. I probably spend an average of one minute a day trying to match up clothes and I calculated that I have spent 7.63 days of my life or one good weeks vacation in the outer banks just matching shirts and ties! Life is too short for that kind of nonsense!! lol!

I have worn the same uniform for the past 44 years. no complaints here.

There are women in my office who wear nothing but black outfits day in and day out. . . .
Personally, I have no problem choosing a shirt for my typical black trousers. What ever is clean and not too creased on the right most side of the closet is what’s the outfit of the day.

I had a friend who bought black socks by the dozens.

tinyfaery's avatar

Reasonable, yes. Fun and creative, no.

I wear a military uniform several days a week. That’s mostly practical for me although I’m not making a serious fashion statement of any kind.

downtide's avatar

I pretty much do that anyway. My wardrobe consists almost entirely of jeans, plain light-coloured t-shirts and checked/plaid shirts. The colours vary but the style remains always the same.

downtide's avatar

@gailcalled I always buy black socks of the same style and from the same place. That way, I can grab any two and have a matching pair.

gailcalled's avatar

@downtide; Exactly.

faye's avatar

I only buy black socks in the same style as well. I still have a basket of socks that may be pairs from various children moving in and out.

gailcalled's avatar

@faye; Start a new trend, as I am doing. I wear both unmatched socks and gloves at this time of year. No one has had me arrested yet.
