Well, there’s not really much you can do. Either stick to your guns & hope for the best. Or confirm what they think & face the consequences.

Yes, in time the truth will come out and everyone will feel a bit silly and, maybe, try to apologize.

Knowing you are innocent is extremely important. Compare it to knowing you are guilty.

Regardless of what people may say, you can sleep at night. Yes, maybe you toss and turn thinking about how unfair it all has been, but in the end, you know you’re right. And the truth will come out eventually.

I have been in this situation for the past year or so, and it has given me immense strength to know I never did anything wrong (either legally or morally). More and more people are now coming up to me to offer their support (my case is quite well-known in the place I am now). There are still those who are against me, but their are dwindling, both in numbers and in fervour.

You’ll see, things will only get better, and knowing you are innocent is the strongest weapon you can have.

You must have been mixed up in something dubious…guilt by assumption is the worst. Hopefully time will prove out your innocence.

If you are innocent in this respect – simply hold your ground. But don’t spend too much energy on that. Especially not on fighting. There’s nothing to fight for if you already know you are innocent. It doesn’t work, increases your ‘signs of guilty’. Given most people like to lie in this case and become defensive. Just calmly communicate what you think is true – and hope the person or persons have an attitude change. You can’t expect it though.

@Cruiser I don’t know about that. Currently, my wife keeps making reference to my “girlfriend.” I don’t have one. She bases this on the fact that I work with a woman (and two guys).

Sometimes it doesn’t take much.

You have to live with the knowledge that you are innocent and let that carry you.

Adjust. Even if that means giving in to your roomate, Bubba, in jail.

It kind of depends what you are innocent of. If it’s an affair, then there are trust issues in the relationship. If it is some malfeasance or crime, then there are trust issues, but of a different kind. It probably depends on the reputation you’ve got from before this event.

What do you do? Work to build trust. It will take a long time. You have to give your word and come through over and over and over. Eventually you will prove yourself trustworthy. Then even people besides your love will trust you.

@marinelife Ooooh Jealousy over the workplace is a toughie!! You have your work cut out for you! Not sure what to offer you other than don’t ignore her fears or concerns as if those fester and she will begin to believe her fears and you will have your hands full for sure.

I’ve been through the same thing and it is heartbreaking,believe me.The only thing that I can do is find a way to move on.I hope that you can begin to do the same.I’m sorry.

I thank God today that Forensic Science is available. so many innocent people have been unjustly found guilty on shoddy evidence in criminal courts in the past. DNA has turned the tide around and innocent people have been freed. how does this concern your situation? the same applies to you. you are like an innocent prisoner, convicted of something you did not do. like Forensic Science, you need proof of your innocence. be a detective and start digging for proof or evidence that you did not do what you are accused of. only you can make this happen..

When I was little, I was spanked for something I did not do because my sister lied. I got over it, and that’s my advice to you – get over it.

One of the neatest things I’ve found to do is have a sense of humor about it. If you don’t take the people accusing you seriously, it can really put them off (assuming that this is not a legal issue). Make sure your jokes are not bitter ones, just lighthearted, showing that you really think the whole thing is sort of silly (just don’t bust out in tears later).
