What should I take? Clothing, laptop, Froot Loops?

Damn, I should have bought gas yesterday.

Delicious snacks..you’d hate to get hungry wouldn’t you?

I am assuming you are driving to your “safe” place since you mention clothing and laptop. Bring food that won’t spoil, a few gallons of water, toilet paper, the photos you would be unbelievably distraught to lose, ID/wallet, some clothing, car cell phone charger if you have one, and be sure, very important, to bring with you any medication you need.

@neverawake : thus the Froot Loops

A boat.

And Fruit loops.

Your pets, along with medications, food, kennels, collars, leashes, and ID for them.

Also, toothbrush and toothpaste.

@hawaii_jake yeah, that and the zebra cakes

How close to the coast are you? How far inland will you have to travel?

LunaChick's avatar

Take your pets, clothing, laptop, some books, non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit and, of course, fruit loops.

You may also want to take Parmalat, a milk that won’t spoil.

For the Froot Loops.

Are you in Hawaii?

We are under a warning here also – not expected to hit another five hours or so.

We are living on the waterfront about twenty-five feet above sea level and will probably get some minor flooding (we have several times in the past) but we aren’t leaving. I doubt that it will amount to much.

Food and water? A couple of first aid kits? Anything you would need if you were stranded for a while.

The radio news is saying a week’s worth of food, clothing, and water. Spam is on a 2 can limit at the stores. No kidding.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

I live on the Big Island in Hilo where the tsunami will hit first. I live about 1 mile from the shore. I can literally walk across the street to be out of the tsunami zone.

@BlockStar22 : don’t worry. We have plenty of warning.

@kevbo : I got my 2 cans of Spam. Nor worries, brah.

@hawaii_jake Bring photos. Especially if you have real ones. Legal docs too.

i would take… meds, water (loads of water), music, ideally the piano but i’m guessing that would be more than a bit inconvienient =/, 2 cans of sweetcorn (vegan alternative to 2 cans of spam), antibacterial substances (ocd), enough water for some intense oral cleansing (more ocd), things that are important like books with all people’s beautiful lyrics n’ stuff, ibuprofen, other such analgesics, first aid things, and last but by no means least fruit loops.

Dude, I hope you are ok through all this… =)

skfinkel's avatar

I hope you are gone out of the lowlands and are not reading this still, but if haven’t left yet, take water, medications, your valuables, anything you hope to see again that you can load in your car really fast, and get out of there!

Good luck.

Thanks, everyone. I’m up at my ex’s house. Thank goodness we’re still good friends.

I don’t understand why people flock to get gas. This is an island after all. Maybe Big Island.

@hawaii_jake Where are you going? I am thinking I’d like to go hike up Diamond Head or Makiki Heights and watch what happens from there :)

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@lilikoi : We flock to get gas in case there is a widespread power outage that lasts for days. Gas pumps don’t work without electricity.

lilikoi's avatar

Yes I realize this but I just don’t feel the need for it. Water I understand.

patg7590's avatar

swim trunks!

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

Thanks, everyone! We missed the devastation of the tsunamis in 1946, 1960, and 1964 when scores of people were killed. In 1946, an entire section of Hilo was washed out to sea.

I’m going back to my apartment in the evacuation zone soon.

lilikoi's avatar

blech. another false alarm. the news coverage of this was total sensationalism.

@lilikoi If it bleeds, it leads!
