A few people have asked what happened, why I was absent for few a few months. A quick synopsis: I had recovered from cancer – Melanoma – a few years ago, and had reached a stage of pretty good health for a guy in his fifties, when last September I accidentally got severely sunburned. (Caught in the open without shelter or protective clothing for nearly a day in full tropical sun). A few weeks later the cancer came back, new tumours every day or two – it was what they term “aggressive”. It was a different form of cancer and didn’t intially respond to treatment.

I eventually managed to get it under control with a variation of the treament that was successful the first time. Most of the tumours have now either gone a shrunk to a non-threatening size. At the tail end of this, on Christmas day, an elderly family member died leaving his also elderly wife alone and injured. She was several hours away and we had to take it in shifts to spend time caring for her. My wife did most of it and I filled in.

All in all, since last October life has been pretty hectic – things only started returning to normal last week.A part of normal is me being able to spend time on Fluther. Everything is looking great now other than the necessity for me to catch up on an enormous amount of work that I have missed.

My main reason for mentioning all of this in such detail is to warn people, particularly those who are no longer young. Sunburn can cause Melanoma and Carcinoma – if you are young it might take twenty or thirty years to develop. If you have passed your forties, it can happen with incredible speed. Enjoy the sun, but be careful.
