I was homeless for a few weeks when I was 19. I was working and young enough that I could still call people up to crash on couches, do laundry, and things like that. The nights that I spent outside, I didn’t sleep but spent the time moving around, passing the time in places that were open 24 hours. During the day, I picked up extra shifts at work, slept on the train, visited friends, went to the library, or went to internet cafes. It kind of sucked, but things were easier for me in a lot of ways than they would be for lifelong homeless people.
