This is terrific. Floridian residents should determine their library needs on a county or city basis. There is no reason for the state to be micromanaging this.

It is not only how much you spend, but how you spend it. Your system has a whole lot of problems, like NCLB, religious fundamentalists and nutty “my kid is a princess”-parents corrupting the curriculum and teaching effectiveness, insufficient teachers, outdated teaching methods, insufficiently trained and motivated teachers, the last three points being because of insufficient funding.
And now this. All this shows that the US does not give a damn about education.

People like you constantly and consistently ignore other factors that play into the equation.
Like the following factors:
– illegal immigrants will purchase goods and services, thus bolster the economy, generate tax revenue via corporate taxes the companies they buy from pay and via VAT they pay with the products and services they purchase
– the children of those immigrants, when properly educated and turned into cititzens, will get higher paying jobs, thus pay more in income tax, purchase more and more expensive goods and services and generate more tax revenue that way as well
– NOT educating the children will make them unfit for any well paying job in the future and will quarantee them to become a drain on financial resources.
– NOT educating the children will also severely increase the probability that they will turn towards a carreer in crime when they grow up, causing financial and material damage as well as loss of life and will cause high costs in the field of law enforcement.
