That is an interesting observation. Hasn’t this been the practice since the pin-up calendar girl, Marilyn Monroe, the Barbie Doll, and reality tv?

I think that look is awful, and yes I’m sure a lot of women do want to look like that. But god, I don’t. Especially the lips. And straight legs. NO THANK YOU!

Did anyone notice that Rene Zellweger looks like a blow-up doll on the cover of Bridget Jones 2?

I think the more likely explanation is that men find certain characteristics appealing, so both blowup dolls and women who want to attract men exhibit them.

That’s an interesting angle. I was wondering what percentage of the males in fashion are gay so they don’t really know what straight men look for?

When I look at a woman I want to see a sparkle and a sense of humor, not that blank look.

Much truth to that I think. Certainly it is true in reference to the female image print media represents, where 99% of it is photoshopped (not a guess on the 99%).

I find that the things I see about women on women’s magazine covers as desirable features are all features I don’t care for. Straight legs, thin thighs, hard tight butts, small pert breasts, boob jobs, lip jobs, hairless pubic areas (just like the blowup dolls). I don’t like dolls. I do like natural women, stretch marks and all.

Artificial flowers have no scent! I guess thats okay for those that have no sense of smell, like attracts like! Being the wildflower that I am I prefer a bumblebee, my blossom their buzz!........lololol

Unfortunately, the women that make themselves into these blow up dolls have a deranged sense of what they think they need to be in order to get some men to ” love ” them.

No. It’s the other way around. The blow-up doll is based on an idealized/sexualized woman.

And if there is a role model for that phenotype, it’s more likely to be Barbie than a blow-up doll.

The shallowness of the thinking is kind of disturbing. How can you develop a relationship if the doll idea is what your after? That was before I saw w’s post. But it does explain some of the cosmetic surgery.

Well, obviously – the blow up doll is fashioned after the porn star, the porn star is fashioned after what some men find desirable (blond hair, low waist to hip ratio, big breasts).

I read a study not that long ago where they asked guys what their ideal was in a woman’s body shape. To many people’s surprise the majority wanted women to have a nice butt and that was #1. Behind that feature was the desire for big breasts. They didn’t care, really, about how flat a woman’s stomach was or, particularly, how much she weighed.

I asked my hubby what he though and he agreed. But then he married me and I am definitely not built straight up and down.

The fashion/beauty industry has a warped idea about beauty. IICR, Cindy Crawford said that not many people recognize her when she is running errands. She had one lady tell her, as she waited in a grocery lineup, that she, “looked a lot like Cindy Crawford.”

I think that the women who are lining up for these procedures have poor self-confidence most of the time.

Agreed. So many other things to devote our time, attention and $‘s to.

Besides the vanity/ego issues, there is also the risk factors of ‘enhancements’ gone wrong.

I have witnessed this in some of my personel relationships. One friends breast enhancement went wrong and it took 3 follow up surgeries to correct and a lot of pain in every department.

Another was a young mom in her early 30’s with 2 small children.
A ‘routine’ tummy tuck caused her to have a stroke during the proceedure and she is now half paralyzed forever! So sad.

I like my women in any of the 50 states, and several foreign countries. Oceans are good, too.

I did have to laugh at the “unwittingly” part of the Q. I thought that these types of body modifications were done very, very deliberately.

As a man, I have never desired the Marilyn, Barbie, Playboy designed woman.

So I look at them, yes. I would however look at a hippo tiptoeing on it’s hind legs carrying an umbrella.

A woman who is real inside and out has always been so much more desirable to me than a woman with extreme implants, extensive cosmetic “enhancements” and excess makeup.

There is nothing appealing about a blow-up doll or a woman emulating one.

I’m not so sure it isn’t the other way around…...

I’ve been thinking of making a ‘Playgoose’ calender with my pet goose in speedos poolside with a bowtie and his Corona bucket. lolol

The evolutionary psychologists are more likely to say that it has to do with evolutionary psychology.
Like every other evolutionary psychologist, this guy’s reasoning boils down to “because in the ancestral environment, that’s why.” Annoying as all heck.

Cannot say I have seen that in these parts but women more and more, and younger still, seem to be attiring themselves for the male eye. Some go the other way and try and dress as frumpy as possible not to have men watching them. Women posting selfies of themselves in lingerie, bikinis, or various forms of undress, seem to be spurring other women to either be bold enough to do it themselves where before they never would, or to keep in the game and not be ignored
