No one seems to have heard of them on Google so they never made it very big. Palo Alto is not a big music scene. Maybe they played a show or two at Stanford.
Anyway if a band can’t graduate out of a town like Palo Alto , they probaby folded.
I’m sure plenty of rich kids there started bands that never went anywhere.
White Fir seems to relate to vintage ski jackets and suits. There are a few items on ebay. They must have gone under with the entry of NorthFace and Columbia in the market.
Yeah it was a clothing brand. I have a down jacket by them that I got at a thrift store. I was just curious to know more about the company, but I couldn’t find anything on Google. Sometimes there is interesting history behind a name, like with Frye boots for example. @njnyjobs you’re probably right!
Hi, I am the founder of White Fir Company that started in Palo Alto in 1977. We started carrying Down Jackets at first. The name was to get people’s attention based on the White Down insulation and the “Fir” of a Douglas Fir tree that gave you the feeling of snow and the feeling of the holiday ski season, but people confused it with the “Fur” in a fur jacket. That was the play on words that we hoped would garner people’s attention and think about the name more. The company is still in existence but with the last 4 years of drought, many ski dealers closed up. You can still find our products at Clark’s in the Sacramento area and P.F. McMullins in Santa Ana. I have not been active in the business as my brother now runs the company and I turned to another career in Law. Thanks for inquiring about the business.
