Baking soda is an excellent odor fighter, but eating, drinking and periodontal disease render it no more effective than mint flavoring. It’s also gritty, and about as cheap as alum and silica, the other commonly materials usually used as abrasives in toothpastes.
I don’t know about scientific differences, but the Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste leaves my mouth feeling way cleaner than any other toothpaste I’ve ever used. It’s slightly gritty and tastes great.
I don’t know if it’s better than other toothpastes, but I like Arm & Hammer because it’s one of the few toothpastes that I’ve found that doesn’t taste awful.
The way baking soda toothpastes and whitening toothpastes make your teeth whiter is that they contain more abrasive granules than regular toothpaste. What I mean is that the granules in the paste are more coarse and there are more of them. What they do is remove a very thin layer of your teeth’s enamel.
augh i hate baking soda toothpaste, tastes like salty mint and it grosses me out. my mother and best friend swear by it though, apparently when my friend stayed with her grandma as a child she brushed her teeth with a wet toothbrush dipped in baking soda.
