No. You must submit to the collective will of Fluther. You have no choice. All of your base are belong to us.

TLRobinson's avatar

Why would you?! You’ve earned it!

jaytkay's avatar

You can announce that while you are grateful for all the kind wishes, you cannot respond to everyone, so you will not respond to anyone.

janbb's avatar

Zen opted out by deleting his account and changing his name slightly every time he approached 10K so that’s always an option.

You could also just announce close to the time or when the party starts that you want no congrats, Mazel Tovs™ or well-wishes.

Or you could leave in a huff.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@Captain_Fantasy I can respect that. I’ll make a mental note to only congratulate you via PM when the time comes.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

I’d hate to see you not get the congratulations you deserve, but if that’s the way you want it, I’ll honor your wishes & not post.

rebbel's avatar

Or we could start right now.
Congratulations on reaching 9847! (and counting)

frdelrosario's avatar

Thank bloody goodness for this guy who doesn’t want nitwits to make a big, fat hairy deal out of gathering points that are awarded willy-nilly, and can’t be taken away.

He’s going to reach 10,000 for the Great Questions awarded to his question.

LOL, you prompted me to give a GA.

Coloma's avatar

I could care less either..whats the big deal anyway?

What happens at these 10k parties?

Some sort of hazing? lolol

I had a handful of congrats for the 5k moment…should I be scared? haha

SuperMouse's avatar

Why of course you can, if you want to be forced to change your name on Fluther to “Party Pooper.”

Just kidding, yes you can opt out. So I will congratulate you now!

jaytkay's avatar

I could care less either..whats the big deal anyway? What happens at these 10k parties?

Drunkenness, opium smoking, anonymous sex with strangers, high-stakes poker for real-estate deeds, usually a goat sacrifice – it’s all pretty low key, no big deal.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@jaytkay Geez…I sure never had any of that at MY party!!! I feel cheated.

Coloma's avatar

Cool…I never did try opium way back when.

Wow…I wanna play poker for real estate..but I draw the line at the goat sacrifice.

janbb's avatar

The sex was great, wasn’t it?

filmfann's avatar

@janbb said: Or you could leave in a huff.
As Groucho says: If that’s too soon, you could leave in an hour and a huff.

It’s awfully presumptious of you to believe you’re gonna make it to 10K.

janbb's avatar

@filmfann And if you can’t find a huff, I’ll call you a cab!

(You’re a cab.)

It would be cruel if this question pushed him over the edge.
So don’t click this link.

That would be wrong.

janbb's avatar

Methinks I smell a devious plot on @Captain Fantasy’s part!

Jeruba's avatar

I’m not sure you can avoid having fellow flutherfolk wish you well, nitwits though we may be. But you can certainly avoid or ignore those good wishes by several means that have been suggested above.

It’s not that the points matter so much—they don’t. It’s just an occasion for paying a little special attention to long-time contributors.

In much the same spirit, people give birthday cards that say things like “I love and appreciate you” even though love and appreciation have nothing whatsoever to do with observing an arbitrary date on the calendar that just happens to signify a cyclical recurrence of time markers since the person’s birth.

Captain_Fantasy's avatar

I beg your pardon Jeruba?
I didn’t call anyone nitwit.

jaytkay's avatar

I didn’t call anyone nitwit.

Self-deprecation is not accusation.

Great Answer, BTW, Captain! 5 points!

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’m afraid you can’t but we do appreciate you asking though. And have a good weekend, pre-10k’er!

shpadoinkle_sue's avatar

I understand. I’m the same way about the happy birthday song. But every year it gets sung, and the 10k party will happen. :)

tinyfaery's avatar

Pfft. You have no say in what can and cannot be posted.

Jeruba's avatar

No, you didn’t use the word, but celebrators were called nitwits on this thread by a poster who agreed with you. I’m not ascribing @frdelrosario‘s sentiments to you, @Captain_Fantasy, only noticing that that label was applied in support of your view.

You can certainly opt out by not attending.

Coloma's avatar

I want a pinata filled with dove chocolates, grey goose vodka and cranberry juice, a bubble machine, a live band and a pool party!

cyn's avatar

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
oh,i still need to wait. :(

SeventhSense's avatar

I won’t throw you a party if that’s your wish. But methinks you may benefit by accepting some lurve with a grateful heart. Sometimes to accept a gift is harder than giving one but it’s good for us.

liminal's avatar

I give you permission to skip it. I still think I would enjoy attending.

Maybe I will just keep the gift.

SeventhSense's avatar

@liminal
Re-gifting is completely understandable in this case.

jaytkay's avatar

Ooooh, that is good.

augustlan's avatar

If enough people see this question, maybe you won’t get one. But, it seems likely that someone will ask the 10K question for you, and it won’t get removed. Of course, you’re free to completely ignore it if it makes you uncomfortable.

loser's avatar

No.

Judi's avatar

Why don’t we race to see who gets to the next 10K mark first. I can’t wait for my 20K Party. The last 200 have taken me a month!

Coloma's avatar

Jeez…well..I made 5k in 6 weeks, verbosity is so effortless. lol

shpadoinkle_sue's avatar

I see 10k as a representation of how much we value your input and opinions. We love you! Just thought I’d mention it.

Cruiser's avatar

You can run but you can’t hide!

jrpowell's avatar

I’m calling shenanigans.

chyna's avatar

@jaytkay The anonymous sex was great, who told?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Well, you made it anyway. Whether or not you like it, you ARE in the mansion. Here’s the keys…...

MissAusten's avatar

@Coloma Will you be in charge of planning for my 10K party?? I want that pinata.

Coloma's avatar

@MissAusten

Rigged election? lol

A woman cut from the same cloth…

SeventhSense's avatar

Personally the whole things out of control if you ask me. Good PR for the site though.

Berserker's avatar

You can’t escape it. Ever seen Evil Dead? It’s like that.

Congrats, keep up the clever insights and ’‘telling shit like it is’’ attitude, I totally love it. :)

Likeradar's avatar

Aw crap, I congratulated you before I saw this thread.

I take it back.

Uncongratulations!

Trillian's avatar

@Captain_Fantasy I’m sorry. I wish I had read this before I congratulated you. Sorry. I work nights. This wasn’t here before I went to work last night, blah blah blah. I apologize.

gemiwing's avatar

Well, crap. I wished you congrats before I saw this.

Okay, you’re a random person on Fluther that means no more than anyone else. better?

AstroChuck's avatar

No. Never. Bite your tongue. It’s as much for us as it is for you.

jonsblond's avatar

Does anyone know what happened to the Captain? It looks like he is no longer with us.

mangeons's avatar

Aww… I hope he comes back! :(

Berserker's avatar

I have no idea. :( I like him, hope he makes a comeback.

augustlan's avatar

He disabled his account.

judochop's avatar
