You posed a really great question. Zombie films frighten me because it seems like it could happen. Deadly virus, etc. Call me weird, but sometimes it does cross my mind that “what if a zombie crashed through my window right now” and what would I do.
A lot of the time zombie films are there for the gore factor, to be funny, or to be a thinker. The thinker ones are a bit rarer to find, so I think that’s why it’s hard to name one. I Am Legend is a good example because it shows that life will go one without people and that we aren’t the thing that keeps the planet going. That we aren’t the top of the food chain. With that in mind. I think I can find you another decent zombie flick.
I might reccomend the Resident Evil series – I’m actually surprised I didn’t think of it earlier.
The Omega Man, [REC] – which is the orginal version of Quarantine, Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Invasion the new one.
I did see Land of the Dead, and it was alright. The part about how the rich survive in the little city they made and the poor are left in the out-skids was kind socio-ecomonic.
Sorry about the long post. With all of the vampire/werewolf stuff in last couple years, I’m happy to hear about something else.
