Where should we hold the SF salon?

My apologies for not writing about the LA salon—we’ve been busy trying to get a release out. A full blog post with the audio of the event to come.

It was a smash success—part lecture series, part meetup, part cocktail party, the topics ranged from film music to BDSM to space exploration.

Everyone filled out a tag labeled “Ask me about…” and chatted for a while before we started the “talk” part of the salon. Each 10 minute talk started off with someone getting up and saying a little about what they knew or were passionate about before the group started asking them questions.

As we took a break and everyone rushed to talk to each other about the things discussed, both Judy and I were stunned at how well things turned out. As one person said at the end, “It’s like a book club, where everyone brings their own book and you don’t have to read anything.”

It was an organic, enthusiastic group exploration of the people’s passions and experiences.

We’ll be throwing the next salon in SF a little less than two weeks—where should we host it? The space needs room for 20–40 people. Currently we’re looking at http://bollyhoodcafe.com/.

What is a multi-cultural bar? Just for clarification.

EAST COAST. EAST COAST. EAST COAST.

Hmmm…this is appealing, but I am terrified of driving in SF because I always get lost and then panic. And I can’t walk too far—still have a cast on one foot—so I’d worry about a long hobble from BART. If anyone is heading up from the South Bay or the Peninsula—say, Palo Alto—I’d consider carpooling. Assuming there’s no conflict on the date.

Is there room enough in the cool conference room (the one with the doors in the background)? It would be pretty interesting to host it “at” Fluther HQ. Next up, DC? PLEASE?

PS: Who is Judy?

rangerr's avatar

@andrew Are there any other random staff members we should know about?

augustlan's avatar

Wait. Judy is staff? How do I not know these things?

andrew's avatar

Judy is our marketing intern and Richard Henry is a developer.

Let me know when you do one in the northeast. This boy’s sick of flying.

There’s this place called 111 Minna – it’s an art gallery in SOMA and it’s a pretty nice venue.

Jerusalem, Israel. (Hey, Elton was just here – so one can hope, right?)

I used to work like 8 blocks from there.

Hold it in Golden Gate Park. Right off the beach, at the North Windmill.

The Marsh on Valencia?
The Victoria Theatre on 16th?
The Balboa Theatre on Balboa?

Any idea when the results from this one will be available? I searched but didn’t see anything on here or facebook.

We’re working on getting the audio and picture files up and running.
