He’s not on much these days but Billy Graham is the Gold Standard here as far as I’m concerned.
Never a trace of scandal, financially or otherwise. As a matter of fact he was one of the first to make independent audits of his organizations finances publicly available.
I don’t remember the exact name, but he started an organization for this specific purpose.
Someone who practices what they preach and is accountable gets my respect.
Interestingly enough, he was also the first Southern preacher to eliminate segregated seating in his crusades at a time in history when it was definitely not popular to do so. It cost him popularity among numerous preachers and church groups but he wouldn’t backtrack.
He said straightforwardly, ” there is no scriptural justification for segregation of the races”.
Obviously history vindicated his position but he had the courage to be in the forefront on this issue.
He is also the one to have uttered the famous quote that the most segregated hour in America is every Sunday morning.
So he gets my vote.
