What is the name of this thing?

“Great Question” (2points)

There was a product advertised heavily in the mid 80’s that I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of.

It had a small plastic base, possibly with pins embedded in it, attached to a short handle which held a twisting base. The idea was to wrap yarn around the pins, twist the base (it made a popping sound) and voila- fake crochet/knitted square and octagon.

Does anyone remember this product and what it was called? Did anyone ever actually use one and did it work?

Daisy Maker?. I can hear the commercial jingle in my head.

@PandoraBoxx YES. Dear God alive- thank you. That was one of them- and it had different shapes you could make. I was starting to wonder if I’d imagined it.

I think there was a square one, too. The Butterfly Loom.

The commercial showed the woman winding yarn, and the they said “You just twist, and pop.”

I bet @YARNLADY still has hers.

@PandoraBoxx The Butterfly Loom- yes, that’s the other one all right. I used to be fascinated by those commercials. That lady made an afghan in ten minutes or so it seemed. I’m going to try and find these. I think I saw one at a thrift store last week- hope it’s still there.

Egad! My grandmother had one of these, and lost it a few years back. I’ve been trying to get my hands on one forever, but didn’t know what it was called, either. Glad you asked!

@gemiwing Here’s a pattern book

I think the one that was advertised had a handle with a push button. You wrapped the flower, pushed the button, and the finished square popped off. If I recall, that feature on mine broke rather quickly.

There another one that was heavily advertised and it was called “Knitting Pal” by Walter Palange.
