Where are the Federated questions coming from?

“Great Question” (1points)

What site(s) are the new Federated questions coming from? Do the people asking the question know their question is being reposted here? Is Fluther scraping other sites for questions, as it was doing to Twitter a while back, or is it actually partnered with other sites that are sending their questions directly to Fluther?

Need more information before I can decide if I like this or not.

Where are the Federated questions comeing from?

If you look at the questions under “Federated”, it says where each one is from.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

They’re coming from Fluther’s new partners.

EmpressPixie's avatar

Right now, they are coming from here. (I had to see the other side of this operation and looked for it.)

MrItty's avatar

I didn’t mean “What is the name of the sites from which they are coming?”. I meant in the more general sense of “how are they getting here?”

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@MrItty This is simply a new feature on Fluther – there will be qs coming in from other sites and these will be under the said tab.

MrItty's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I get that it’s a new feature of Fluther. I want to know if the people asking on the originating site are informed that their questions are being crossposted in any way. I see a “powered by Fluther” logo on this Sierra Club Green site. But no one who doesn’t know what Fluther is seems to be given any indication that these questions are being crossposted here.

The boys are working directly with the other websites in this “Federated” program.

The users are indeed aware that this is through Fluther—You have to register for a Fluther account and link it to your (in this case) Sierra Club account, in order to ask/answer questions.

If you’re uninterested in registering for that site, here is a picture of how the asking interface looks for me.

I’m extremely excited for this Federated fluther feature. I hope it will get us a great influx of new questions from all different realms.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Sarcasm I agree, I think it’s a great feature – and to call it Federated is awesome but of course I’m a star trek geek.

MrItty's avatar

@Sarcasm Thank you. The requirement to link the originating site account to the Fluther account removes any criticism I might have had for the new feature.

Sarcasm's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Thanks for posting an answer, I was really dreading doing a double-post, and the time to edit my quip has passed! But yes, “Federated” is an awesome word!

Another picture for those curious of the system, but not curious enough to register and check it out here.
You can see the interface for answering questions is almost identical. And on the bar at the bottom of the user’s post (Where the GA button is), it’ll indicate whether the person answered it from Fluther.

More like Borg.

Funny, i have ab-so-lu-te-ly no idea what you people are talking about.
Federated questions? Where? What?

MissAnthrope's avatar

@rebbel – Thank you. I was basically going to say the same exact thing. What the heck are you guys talking about?

rebbel's avatar

@MissAnthrope
You are welcome.
Now let’s hope someone will enlighten us!

augustlan's avatar

Only beta testers can see them for now.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@rebbel @MissAnthrope A while back, the founders asked some of us if we wanted to become beta testers for new Fluther features. Today, the Federated Questions feature was opened up to us, and it shows up as a new tab at the top of the page. I assume that in time (and based upon the initial testing) it will become a feature that is available to all users.

cookieman's avatar

I’m so happy to be a Beta Tester

If I get really good at it, I can be a “Master-Beta Tester”

rebbel's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities
Thanks for clearing that up.
What they are, these Federated questions, i guess, we will find out in due time then.

Sarcasm's avatar

@rebbel @MissAnthrope I’m having trouble finding the right words to describe it.

Well, on this site, “Federated” questions are in a tab right up there with General, Social, etc. (you’ll see that when it’s out of beta phase). They’re questions from users posted on other websites (ones that the Staff here are directly working with; they’re not questions just randomly stolen from places).

On other sites, they’ll have a mini version of Fluther. Completely functional with our Fluther. If they post a question on that site, they’ll show up on that site as well as showing up in our Federated tab. Users registered on that version of Fluther will be users on this site. GAs given by those users will count for us.

It’s a way to spread Fluther’s seed around the internet. It gives us more questions to answer and debates to take part in. It gives them a greater base of answer-givers for their users.

It’ll make actual sense when you actually get to experience it.

It’s what this blog post teased at.

@Sarcasm
I think you did well to describe it, that is…, i think i get the idea of what it is going to be.
More questions sound good to me.
Thanks.

If you’d like to be a part of the beta group, let me know.

filmfann's avatar

First rule of Fluther is you don’t talk about Fluther.

Seek's avatar

Wow, that sounds like so much fun! I wanna be a Master Beta. ^_^

Sarcasm's avatar

Sorry folks. I’m already the beta master. Try again next season.

chyna's avatar

What exactly is a “beta master”?

casheroo's avatar

@MrItty Thanks for asking this! I was really curious, but didn’t know how to word it.

YARNLADY's avatar

@chyna It’s a snarky way to imply a personal sexual act.

chyna's avatar

@YARNLADY That’s what I was thinking.

MrItty's avatar

@casheroo you’re welcome

lilakess's avatar

Federated is absolutely brilliant!!! Good for flutherers and good for the orgs using fluther. Congrats!

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I thought it was about star trek at first.
