What format does a video file have to be in so that iDVD WON'T have to "encode" it?

does it always have to be encoded, or is this just because it’s in a “valid” format for iDVD to recognize and convert, but not the correct codec to go directly to disc?

It needs to be in MPEG2, I believe.

@Dr Lawrence and then it won’t have to encode? it will just go straight to disc?

I believe so, but wait for other answers to be sure.

I believe it’s Apple ProRes, or something along those lines. When used with Final Cut Pro it doesn’t have to render it before previewing, I’d think it’d be the same with iDVD.
