Aww, how cute, a little earthquake. I don’t even move my butt for less than 5.5, and sometimes not even then. Was it fun?

Haha… I know it’s no big to you westerners. I didn’t really get to “enjoy” it because I was in twilight sleep. I dreamed it was an earthquake, but when I woke up a little more, I thought it was just a loud airplane flying low- we live very close to BWI. I do like that I have added a badge to my vest of life, though.

Back in ‘87 (Whittier earthquake) people made and sold t-shirts that said “I survived the Big One”. I say you start a little t-shirt biz. It can say, “I survived the Maryland quake.” :)

The only quake I’ve ever been in, or ever want to be in, was in Phoenix of all places. It was an aftershock of one in Mexico. I was meeting with a co-worker in my office in a 20-story building when the aluminum blinds on my windows started swaying—and the windows were sealed! Lasted probably less than 15 seconds, but I’ve never forgotten how scary and disorienting it was trying to walk a slightly undulating floor.

Funny. I didn’t feel it, but I’m over in Washington as opposed to on the West coast right now. I guess I can’t escape them.

I felt in one way ripped off that I did not feel it, and in another, having lived through several in Washington State and California, relieved.

Oh yeah, I felt it up here in Frederick. My whole house shook and it was loud and rumbly. But I was asleep at the time so I woke up confused and freaked out for about second, and then went right back to sleep. I thought it was just a dream this morning until I saw people posting about it on Facebook.

Even though it was only a tiny quake, I feel that much more awesome having been through one. But at the same time, I wish I was fully awake for it so I could get the full earthquake experience.

I felt nothing.
I was asleep when it occurred.

My wife said it shook the house.

Didn’t feel a thing. But I may be too far for a small one to have gone anywhere near us. I believe it only made it as far as Arlington and Alexandria Area on the Virginia side.

Did you know that one of the worst earthquakes in our recorded history hit in Missouri during the 19th century? It was an 8.5….. “The area of strong shaking associated with these shocks is two to three times as large as that of the 1964 Alaska earthquake and 10 times as large as that of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake…..”—Wiki.

@Dutchess_III Interesting! There’s always something stranger, isn’t there?

It would just be cool to find yourself in a natural event that isn’t common to the area! Assuming nobody died. I mean, it would be very strange to be visiting in, say, Seattle when a tornado hit! I’d know it we were going to have one before it formed (or I’d at least be saying, “You know, this (the air and pressure) is what it feels like back home in Kansas about an hour before somebody somewhere gets hit with a tornado!”

Speaking of, I was at work in 99 or 00, whenever it was, and went outside to smoke. About 30 minutes later I went outside again and the instant I stepped out doors I literally stopped in my tracks. The air was SO heavy and still compared to what it had been 30 minutes earlier, I just froze. I said, “Some body’s getting hit today…..” Well, that was the day when Oklahoma City got seriously nailed by a a bunch huge tornado that evening.

Were you scared @ubersiren? Was it bad?

I totally slept through the whole thing, then I got on facebook and was like. Uhm, really? And I didn’t even get a chance to experience it! I was totally asleep.

Bummer!

I did not feel it out here in Alberta, just north of Montana. That is a good thing, or many people back east would have been hurt!

@Dutchess_III It wasn’t bad at all. Like I said, I barely woke up and thought it was a dream. The whole thing was very surreal. I wasn’t scared- I want another!

@ubersiren When I was a kid, about 4, we lived in Seattle. I woke up one night and I could have sworn the bed was shaking. No one else woke up, or mentioned so I didn’t say anything. I was prone to imagining things! However, as a teen I did say something about it and my mom said it was probably a small earth quake, which made me feel better, even after all those years!
