Well I started this blog about the first book I’m writing and so far I have joined Facebook, Shelfari, and Twitter as sites to let more people know about what I’m doing. So far I only have about 21 followers I would say. I don’t know what else to do, I feel like knowing that a lot of people are reading and following my blog it will give me motivation on my book! Help?! I have the link on my profile! Check it out!

You can put a link to it in your fluther profile and on your facebook. Give a link out to all your friends and tell them to share it. Also, your blog looks a little bit cluttered. I would try removing some of the flashier elements and keep it simple. Simple and subtle is the way to go these days. Good luck.

I’ll follow yours if you follow mine.
And I’m-a reading yours now.

What would you suggest I should think about removing?
Thank you very much!

I think it’s all right. I’d be more interested in your creative processes, though.

Although… when I was a fan of Piers Anthony what I really enjoyed about his books were the bits he wrote when the book was finished. The afterword contained a lot of things that happened to him, or his family, while he was in the process of writing that book.

Nobody likes to hear it but you have to spam, spam, spam yourself. Throw that link and your name up everyplace you can think of, every single day.

Example: Facebook suggests friends to you. Request every single friend they request. As your friends list gets bigger, so will the number of people you that are suggested to you. Start a group on Facebook to promote your blog and send an invite to joint to each and every new friend that accepts your request.

It’s all about numbers and not being afraid to, as I said, spam, spam, spam.

a quality product doesn’t hurt either.

I don’t mean to be a dick, but you need to improve the content if you want to get followers. Honestly, people don’t care what you’ve been up to since you last had a chance to write, and they don’t want to read about how you’ve been meaning to write but haven’t had a chance etc.

Write about your characters, where you’re drawing inspiration from, share a literary technique you’ve learned that has inspired you to do something interesting in your book. Teach. Try to make valuable points that your followers can take away with them so they feel like they learned something. Give them something to look forward to, and make them want to come back. That’s a big part of the craft of storytelling.

Link to cool articles about writing, and share your interpretation/analysis of them. Help people discover new things. Inspire them. Those are the things that a good blog does. If you write a good blog, people will link to you, and you won’t have to spam because others will be doing it for you.

@gorillapaws Amen. If you’re writing the day-to-day stuff, than people who aren’t your friends don’t give a sh*t about it. Write about something they will care about.

Also, what’s the point of trying to have a blog with many followers? Unless you’re getting money per follower from it, it seems kinda pointless.

I got a lot of readers on my blog by responding to every person who left a comment, and I have it open to the public, which means every contact of my contacts can see my entries.

I have read that one way to get a lot of readers is to mention the name of the people listed on the Yahoo page under the “trending now” section. For instance, Right now you would say that you are really interested in the fact that James Franco has plans to teach a class at Yale next year. Highlight his name in your lead-in. This is called keyword loading

Uh… you might first try not holding others accountable for your own personal motivation.

To be a totally awesome blogger, you need to be interesting and active. Because that’s what bloggers are, they’re interesting people with lots of things to say to other people. I hope you actually finish your book. Some people just stop writing if they don’t feel inspired anymore. =_= Thats really disappointing.
ask yourself: “What would make me want to read this stranger’s book?”

@papayalily: I want so many followers because well it’s the best way to get some sort of fan base for when I decide to get my book out, there will be people that already know about it. Starting a blog is one of the best ways. Look at Julie Powell for example.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies: I am not holding “other accountable” that’s such an ugly way to put it, i merely want more people to see it if you don’t like it well then move on.

@ashleyvvv But Julie Powell’s book was a compilation of her successful blog, it wasn’t two separate things.

My blog friend over the past few years was so interesting, several of us suggested she should write a book. One of the contacts sent some material to a publisher. You can now get a copy of her book at Amazon
