Are you "Profound"?

“Great Question” (2points)

The reason I ask is because the other day I posted a status on FaceBook reading ”There are people who dont have to struggle because they have nothing, I have to struggle TO have nothing…yha think about it.” On this my older brother commented stating that what I said is a very profound and somewhat morbid statement. I argued that it wasnt so much “morbid” but was more of something that reeked of ”sadness, despair and a loss at life…” which in turn lead to a discussion about Edgar Allen Poe and how he was morbidly profound yet no one gave a flying you know what about what he had to say till after he died.

so I ask you, do you have any “Profound and or Morbid” statements, quotes, thoughts or sayings that you like? If so why do you like them?

I have been described as morbid and profound, yes. Personally, I just think that I am an emotionally observant realistic pessimist. In other words, I can observe the sadder and darker side of life and be okay with it sans blowing it out of proportion.

I like to think that there is no way to judge suffering. Given the right circumstances and personalities, someone’s nail breaking could be just as traumatic for a woman in Ohio as getting raped could be for a girl in Darfur.

Sometimes people don’t like that idea and may get offended at the example – I personally believe that we should consider some things more serious and important than others, due to the likely ramifications (i.e., preventing child abuse should be prioritized over reducing petty theft). But in the end, I think that we can never know what anyone else is feeling and the implications of any given situation. Some people have more resilience and others have higher tolerance for certain types of pain.

This is why any time someone tells me why they are sad or hurting, I take it very seriously – even if it seems trivial.

@lindsey23 thats a wonderful way to look at it… some people think that pessimism is a “bad thing” i think that it is something all of us should have a little bit of inside…

@linked_up_chic – I agree. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

No, but I consider myself profoundly good at quoting people who are.

Profound? Good God, no.

Occasionally morbid.

Nope…i don’t like saying morbid things… and i’m hardly ever profound!

InkyAnn's avatar

@EVERYONE so is there no quotes or sayings youve heard that you deem profound?

syz's avatar

@Inked_up_chic That’s not what you asked. I’ve come across many quotes that I consider profound, and I’ve come across even more people who try to be profound that are just contrived and pretentious. But I don’t consider myself someone who spouts “profound” statements. I am of a more pragmatic type.

@syz im sorry i confused you… if you reread at the bottom i stated ”so I ask you, do you have any “Profound and or Morbid” statements, quotes, thoughts or sayings that you like? If so why do you like them? the ”if so why do you like them” indicates telling of one and why you like it… not just if you have made any up on your own… it could be one you read somewhere and remembered it or at least the meaning of it.

@Inked_up_chic Ah, I stand corrected.

@Inked_up_chic

Mines a Passat Estate, lots of issues!! Again I’d be here all day too, I like the Jetta BTW, I’ve been looking at them as a matter of fact the sport version, Guess I’m a glutton for punishment Lol.. Mines full of chips front & back from being clattered by people parking too close! Guess I’ll keep it till it rots into the ground!! Who would side swipe you on purpose some mad ex??? or some jealous woman ??

wundayatta's avatar

I’d rather be understandable than profound.

Unfortunately, I tend to fail at my goal, leading people to say I’m profound merely because I did not write clearly enough. Although, occasionally, to give credit where credit is due, I manage to say something both understandable and profound. Lucky me!

@wundayatta

Toot if you like beans :-/

InkyAnn's avatar

@wundayatta i hear that, the status i put up that i said in my question i was not trying to be profound, actually it was more like i was being depressing… it just so happened to sound the other way around as well lol

@Scooby good luck my friend… and no i have no exs here or any women to be jealous of me lol. my car was just parked infront of my house cuz my drive way was full and next thing i know i have a police officer at my door asking me if “this is my mirrors pieces”. so i just think it was someone who once had a jetta and still held a grudge agenst them lol

Scooby's avatar

@Inked_up_chic

Good luck to you too ;-) love that word, friend!!
If we ever meet we can compare inkings, beings there’s no jealous people about , maybe cook you breakfast? ;-)

Yes I’m quite mad! Lol……

I think I’m straightforward, but I’m often told I’m profound. I do tend to really think about many different issues and occasionally something profound comes out of my mouth.

InkyAnn's avatar

@tranquilsea anything you can remember off the top of your head?

le_inferno's avatar

I wouldn’t describe myself as “profound,” but I enjoy hearing profound ideas. And you asked for quotes, so here’s one
“The picture is far too big to look at, kid. Your eyes won’t open wide enough…And you’re constantly surrounded by that swirling stream of what is and what was. Well, we’ve all made our predictions, but the truth still isn’t out.”—Bright Eyes, The Big Picture

InkyAnn's avatar

@le_inferno wow thank you! i like that alot!!

BoBo1946's avatar

i’m anti-found! Sure hope that changes someday!

My favorite contemporary philosopher has some profound sayings, such as “My sources are unreliable, but the information is fascinating” ©Ashleigh Brilliant

tranquilsea's avatar

@Inked_up_chic Not that I can remember right now. Usually what ever it is I’ve said doesn’t seem profound to me but it is the to the receiver. If I recall one I’ll post it here.

tinyfaery's avatar

Too many philosophy classes sucked the profundity right out of me. Or maybe being profound stopped being perspicacious.

zophu's avatar

Anything can be profound; just depends on how you find it.

that’s cheating, I know.

InkyAnn's avatar

@zophu lol yha that’s cheating but it was in a cute way ^_^
