What criteria must be met for a cricket to chirp?

See, I’ve got this rogue cricket in the house, and it will not shut up. I’ve been trying to kill it (or them) for a couple of weeks now, but there are just too many places for it to hide.
I’d settle for the accursed thing to simply be quiet, and so I was wondering if there were any environmental factors that I could alter so that it wouldn’t feel like making an utter nuisance of itself.

Unless you find and terminate them, there’s not much to do, that I know of, but perhaps someone else will have a better answer when it comes to getting rid of insects. Either way, male crickets chirp during mating season, (To attract females.) which is usually most of Summer, or at least its hottest period.

I would guess that there is not much in your house for crickets to feed on. Maybe the crickets will soon move out or die.

Don’t!!! Crickets are lucky. You will have good fortune.

@Nullo:Fresh air, plenty of aerobic exercise, healthy food, satisfying love life and lack of stress. Are you sure that you have only one cricket?

Definitely find a way to chase it out.

@RocketGuy That requires finding it. If I could find it, then I’d go after it with the ol’ clodhoppers. Man versus bug, the way it was meant to be. :D

Yep, need a flashlight and a long stick.
