The direct route seems to be about 8 hours. If you want to make a stop for the night about halfway, I suggest aiming for Hershey, Pa., and then heading up to the final destination. If you have the time, you can take the family over to Hershey Park, even if it is just for a quick tour and one of their sundaes. There is a Hampton Inn & Suites close by for lodging. It has a free breakfast and a pool, amongst other amenities.

I just came from Hershey, my mother lives there. If it’s just overnight, stay away from the park itself. It’ll never be quick, because it’s so awesome. Chocolate World is right next door, has a free tour, and a 45 minute trolley ride with free candy. There is a giant chocolate store and a food court there, and the kids are the perfect age for it. It will cost half of a 3 hour trip to the park and be a good introduction to Hershey. I took my 6 and 7 year old granddaughters down two weeks ago. They are still going on to everybody about it. In year or so, plan a weekend at the park, if you can swing it. I just got four free tickets from chevy.com for being an owner and a Pennsylvanian. Look around for discounts and free upgrades, this park is worth every penny.

oceanport, rumson. actually i grew up on one of the most beautiful beaches in southern california and i can honestly say this whole part of new jersey rocks. incredibly beautiful beaches and communities. love it here.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the beaches. On a side note, where did you end up stopping?

We wound up stopping in State College for the night on the way out. Cool little college town and we walked around the beautiful campus after breakfast the next day. We headed to the town next door for lunch. Very very quaint little town called Bellefonte. Super lunch spot near the river. Then we drove on. On the way back most hotels were booked so we just drove on through to Ohio. Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for the update. It’s a shame we didn’t know…I would have recommended going to The Creamery for some ‘to die for’ ice cream. Glad to year y’all made it home safely.
