I like jewelry that is simple or understated, nothing big, chunky, or flashy. I’ve always like opals quite a bit.
However, I almost never wear jewelry, and when I do wear it, it’s only for short periods of time. During my second pregnancy I developed an allergy to nickel, which is used in gold and silver jewelry. I can’t even wear my wedding ring without getting a rash all around my finger. When I wear earrings, my earlobes swell up and the earring holes bleed (only keeping them in for a couple of hours isn’t too bad, they just get sore and crusty). Most necklaces and bracelets are OK, probably because they are looser and don’t have as much direct skin contact. The worst they do is make me itchy, but that might even be all in my head.
I think there are metals I could wear, like platinum, but it’s not high enough of a priority to make it into the family budget. I do hope someday to have my wedding band and engagement ring replaced with platinum just because those are the two things I miss wearing. The rest of it I could easily do without.
