@SeventhSense It does sound implausible, but I assure you that many times, it holds true. I have seen it happen on more than one occasion. One girl of my acquaintance, who wasn’t particulary attractive (she had a severe face with a personality to match, and an unprepossessing figure), happened to snag this really cute guy friend of mine just by persistently showing up wherever he was, hanging out with him, and very openly displaying her admiration for him. Several more attractive, pleasant-tempered girls were interested in him, but this young woman was the only one with the guts to go for it. According to social psychology, knowing that someone likes us influences us to like them in return, even if our admirer isn’t someone that we would have paid attention to before.
