1. 12 April 2009 – I saw a photograph of my dad’s father for the first time in my life.

2. For my Arthurian Romance course, I wrote a 30-page script for an episode of The Storyteller that retold the Quest for the Holy Grail using Muppets. My project included a cast list with black-and-white photos, stage directions, and cheesy jokes. It wasn’t until after my professor handed it back to me with an A+ and a happy face on the corner of the front page, that I realized I had earned a passing grade for turning in fan fiction.

3. Up through high school, 90% of my wardrobe was purchased from thrift stores.

4. My financial aid covers all my student fees with a surplus of funds in my bank account.

5. I had my first job interview on Tuesday.

6. My kindergarten teacher told my mother that I was not emotionally ready to move ahead in school. She ignored her. My first grade teacher told my mother that I wasn’t challenged enough and belonged in second grade. She ignored her, too.

7. I opted out of the GATE program at my school because I was terrified of taking the bus.

8. There’s a boy who attends (unless he graduated this past year) the high school near my university. He is one of the sweetest boys I have ever seen and he has the loveliest freckles. I’d tell him, but he’d probably think I’m a nut-job-wacko-stalker.

9. My mother is convinced that I am going to marry a person of Asian descent. I don’t date people based on ethnicity or cultural affiliation.

10. I have spent so much of my life with my brothers, that we often think the same things at the same time, finish each other’s sentences, share the same opinion, etc. “I knew you were going to say that / do that” is one of our most commonly uttered sentences.

11. I didn’t realize this until someone pointed it out to me, but when I am relating a story about a conversation I had with someone, I adopt their manner of speaking. If someone asks me to do an impression, however, I will sound nothing like the person I am attempt to imitate.

12. I have not seen one branch of my father’s family since I was two, another branch since I was a freshman in high school, and I have yet to meet the majority of my mother’s family.

13. When I was two, I wanted to be a butterfly.

14. The best paper I have ever written was for a Shakespeare course. I had maybe a page or two written the night before it was due and stayed up all night finishing it. I had an 8:00 AM poetry class and napped in the library until class at 3:00 PM. Then I went home, wrote my Chaucer final, and went to the airport at 4:00 AM to head off to an English convention. I’m never doing that again.

15. I have never broken a bone.

20. I played soccer for the better part of a decade. Sometimes I regret not sticking with it into high school and college.
21. I attended the Berklee College of Music for a year before I dropped out. This is something I also regret.
22. I learned to read when I was 2 years old.
23. I was at a college reading level by the time I was 10. I am convinced I had a larger vocabulary then than I do now.
24. I think about some pretty deep thoughts on a regular basis – the universe, the meaning of life, etc. This usually happens as I lie in bed trying to fall asleep. I can remember doing this since I was little – maybe around 4 or 5 or so.
25. I attended Catholic school for 8 years – from 5th to 12th grade. When I entered I was convinced I was going to hell and used to pray the rosary on a constant basis. My senior year of high school I decided to stop standing and kneeling during mass and one of my teachers accused me of worshiping satan.

Oh. Oh. I’ll give you one more. I wanted and still kind of want to be a playboy bunny. Is that bad? lol

I’ll try this. I sincerely doubt that I’ll get 25, though.

01) I like studying things that interest me. I obsess occasionally and try to learn everything I possibly can about a subject. It’s been dogs, dinosaurs, drugs, cameras, writing, and currently I’m on bicycles.

02) I love going for walks. Its a form of meditation for me.

03) When I become interested in a certain author/musician/filmmaker, I try to take in everything they’ve done. Once I’ve experienced as much of their work as I can, I go through droughts of consumption of art.

04) I love my family, but I don’t like them most of the time.

05) I’d rather play an SNES than a PS3.

06) I want to take pictures for a living… Hopefully ending up working for the likes of National Geographic or model photography. All I want is to capture light bouncing of interesting/beautiful things.

Well damnit, I read the question & thought – no way in hell am I going to list 25 things about me. But, after reading through all the others I felt like I needed to contribute. So here goes. I’m about get personal, so hold on folks.

1. I cry every time I listen to the song, ‘Not Your Year’ by The Weepies.
2. I sometimes wish I had an incurable disease – so I could have an excuse for living recklessly.
3. I had a suicide attempt that was successful, until my room mate came home early & brought me back to life.
4. I am petrified of social groups consisting of people my own age.
5. Having grown up with no children around – I don’t know how to act around young kids, they make me very nervous.
6. My real dream job is to be a lowly errand boy for the staff of the show How I Met Your Mother.
7. Imagining that I know how to play violin causes a physical pain in my chest.

@filmfann It’s like reading a mystery novel that you wrote. Of course it’s not going to be exciting to you. It’s interesting to see what things other Jellies have experienced, and bits about their personalities. You get a newfound understanding of who they are.

I apologise in advance for the sheer intensity of mundanity depicted below.

1. I’ve had an interest in just about every field of study i’ve encountered except when they involve maths because I simply cannot understand anything remotely complex that relates to numbers.
2. I am incredibly disorganised and go to great lengths to try to work around this. If I were to feel as though I had to be somewhere I would immediately search my pockets, bag, wallet etc for a stick-it note reminding me.
3. Those i’ve asked have all said that my disorganisation is my worst trait.
4. I am indescribably dependent on human contact. Not in so much as i’m clingy as I need to be surrounded by people. If there’s no one nearby me I almost always take what i’m doing outside so there are people, or make a phonecall, talk online etc.
5. I’m the opposite of a picky eater, when watching reality tv shows where people are required to eat things such as bull testicles I wonder what it tastes like and where you could buy it. The only foods I dislike are mince meat and custard.
6. When people disagree with me in a debate or argument I place an arm on my right knee and lean on it as otherwise my leg visibly shakes with excitement.
7. I’ve long promised myself that if I came into a substantial amount of money (i.e. by winning the lottery) that I would pay off my debts then distribute it between my friends, family and the kindly people i’ve met in my life (online and otherwise) and give the rest to charity leaving myself with nothing as frankly I wouldn’t know what to do with it. I’ve always wondered if I would follow through with this promise.
8. I only wear my glasses when absolutely necessary because they make me feel vulnerable.
9. If I have free time while on my campus I usually walk into a random lecture theatre to learn but walk away only remembering a few key points regardless of how simple the subject is.

13. I have very few problems with my appearance because when I was 14 I went through a brief phase of low self-esteem wherein I refused to look in the mirror. Upon forcing myself to do so I made a slightly confused expression and said aloud, “I’m pretty attractive, but not that attractive”. Ever since then everytime I have an issue with my appearance I do the exact same thing and it ends, just like that.
14. I’m sexually attracted to misanthropes because they’re so opposite in nature to me yet share the same desire to question conventions.

1. I was born and have always lived in Monterrey, Mexico (well, except for a semester abroad during college).
2. I plan things, a lot. Sometimes obsessively. I get irritated/frustrated when things don’t go according to plan. I’m working on it. I have a plan. Oh wait…
3. I am very organized (read: borderline OCD) in some things (e.g., the bills in my wallet are sorted by value, and all face the same way), but very disorganized in others (e.g., my room is a MESS, and if it weren’t for Xobni I’d never be able to find something in my work mailbox; get Xobni y’all!).
4. I am color blind. I didn’t know what was wrong with me until I was like 12 or 13 and read about it in a magazine. In elementary school I once drew a green deer. Deer should totally be green!

15. I am a tae kwon do black belt. I mean, sure, I was 14 when I got it, and I quit as soon as I got it (my dad wouldn’t let my brother and me quit before), but hey, it still counts.
16. You probably wouldn’t guess it by looking at me (I’m a large guy), but I’m an advanced spinning cyclist. I can “spin” for 2 hours non-stop. That’s pretty fucking tiring, though.
17. I like my steaks somewhere between medium and three quarters. My life would be easier if waiters knew their fractions, so I could order it 5/8.
18. My favorite ice cream is banana nut. My favorite Dairy Queen blizzard is Oreo with cheesecake and banana. I had one yesterday, yay!
19. My favorite alcoholic drink is whisky (with mineral water). My favorite beer is Heineken.
20. I am a very social drunk. I am much more reserved when sober.
21. I play the lottery, always with the same numbers. Yes, I know I’m basically throwing away money, I’m an economist, thank you. It’s all about behavioral economics. Besides, it’s just $4.50 for a biweekly (astronomical) chance of getting rich. Don’t be so cheap!
22. My favorite number is 144 (12 times 12). If restricted to digits, my favorite is 7.
23. The first thing that comes to my mind when I see the number 23 is Michael Jordan. Every freakin’ time.
24. I am very competitive, especially when playing board games.
25. I flag stuff here on Fluther. A lot. I’m not all that fond of the rules, but if they’re there, they should be followed. Obey the law!

@Mama_Cakes My family hate the fact that I am not using my “gift” to make a living. The truth is, I love singing, I especially love singing Opera and will continue my training but as far as a career goes, I’d rather work with dogs!
