Why couldn't someone just bring Dumbledore back to life?

I was thinking about it when I finished the Half Blood Prince (novel) yesterday, and why didn’t someone just bring Dumbledore back to life? Harry had used a killing spell on Malfoy and Snape brought him back to life, so why couldn’t someone bring Dumbledore back?

And also… why didn’t they take Snape to Wizard Jail? Azkaban, or something, I can’t remember.

The spell Harry used on Malfoy wasn’t a killing spell. It was a spell that caused big, gaping wounds, which Snap was able to magically heal. No one in the Harry Potter books was brought back to life from a killing spell.

As far as I can remember, the only reference to someone being brought back to life was in the story about the Deathly Hallows. One of the brothers brought his wife back using the stone, but she wasn’t really back and was unhappy.

@MissAusten : Oh… okay. I thought it was a killing spell.
Noo, I haven’t gotten that far yet! D:

But its okay, don’t worry. Oh, and is the Snape kills Dumbledore thing the “huge surprise” that everyone talked about? Because… that didn’t seem like a big surprise, he was supposed to anyway. Don’t tell me what it is, but is that the big surprise, for lack of a better phrase?

Well, how far have you gotten? I guess it was a big shock when Snape killed Dumbledore, but the big question in the 7th book was whether or not Harry would survive. When I first read the 6th book, Snape killing Dumbledore shocked me. I don’t know how surprising it would be to someone reading the books now for the first time, since they’re so well known at this point.

That part about the Deathly Hallows isn’t a big part of the story. It’s an old fairy tale or fable mentioned in the book. Knowing that won’t ruin anything for you. And sorry, I guess I answered with the assumption that you’d read all of the books!

I missed the part of the question about not taking Snape off to prison. There isn’t a lot of talk about that in the books, but I think he sort of went into hiding with the other Death Eaters at the end of the 6th book. If you haven’t read the 7th book, I don’t want to say too much else about it at this point. I actually typed out a whole explanation before I realized I was getting into the plot of the last book!

@MissAusten : Okay, I’ll finish it (I’m like, 200 pages in or so) and then I’ll write on your profile to ask you, is that okay?

Yeah, that’s fine! Hope you enjoy it!
