I once heard about about a way to remove tarnish from silver with aluminum foil and baking soda (?) but I don’t remember how and can’t find it on the net. I’m lousy at searching techniques, sorry Do any of you know about this?

I’ve heard of the baking soda with a rag and also toothpaste is supposed to work. It might be a little abrasive so test that one carefully.

I have seen magic with baking soda and aluminum foil, but have never been able to duplicate it. I have also heard about toothpaste—and there are baking soda toothpastes that might work. Wouldn’t it be great to have a product that could work in a washing machine for silver?

@skfinkel I hope you’re referring to a dishwashing machine. The clothes washing machine was the first thing that popped into my mind.

I have used plain toothpaste (not gel and not including baking soda) to polish silver jewelry. It works reasonably well – tough to get ornate jewelry clean, even using a toothbrush. And you have to be sure to rinse it all off well. I’m going to try baking soda and see if that’s any better.
