How do you get your face to tan like the rest of your body?

Asked by JTSTs2003 (295points) March 11th, 2010

I know summer is approaching fast, and I have a question. How do you get your face to tan like the rest of your body? In my case, I go outside for 15 minutes and look like I’ve been out for an hour EXCEPT for my ghost white face. Reasons? Solutions? I’ve also tried self tanners and they don’t match my skin tone when I’m tan – too orangy.

Here’s how I get tan:

Spend a lot of time outdoors in a bikini. Like every day. For two hours or more. Always wear SPF 30 or more sunscreen (I use a Bullfrog cream; other more runny sunscreens are fine if you are not in the water). Avoid the hottest times of the day between 10 and 2 pm. It is a very gradual process. Preferably do something active instead of just laying around because you don’t have to think about even-ness. Your face will never be as dark as your, say, back for example, but you don’t want it to be anyway!

If you don’t get outdoors that often, I don’t recommend getting a tan. The skin on your face is much more delicate than most of the rest of your body. You don’t want to be saggy and wrinkly on your face or anywhere else as you age due to sun damage. Embrace your whiteness.

Does your makeup have any spf in it? Look at all your powders, blush or any liquid makeup. I had that issue and then noticed that every single one of my products had at least an spf of 15.

Also, I get real orangey as well, but I have found two self tanners for the face that are awesome. The Clinique product and the face tanner by Peter Thomas Roth. Check them out.

I guess you have to expose your face a little bit more time than the rest of your body. But be careful not to over do it. Check on the doneness every so often to make sure you have reached the desired level of tan.

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees, then stick face in it…
Given artificial tanning has a very high correlation with skin cancer, I’d stay away from that.

Use the sun, and adequate protection. More than adequate. An untanned face is better than no face.

Answer to Supergirl – I don’t wear any makeup on most my face, just eye makeup and concealer for dark circles, that’s it. But thank you, I’ll check those products out!

I’m outdoors a lot and I get pretty dark in the summer, and even though my face is exposed just as much, if not more, than any other body part total, its still a little lighter. And it burns faster. I think it’s just natural, and I think the only way to get it to be the same color is to put something on your face to speed up tanning while the rest of you is tanning at a normal rate. Like a tanning oil or something. Those get you dark soo fast.

i cant wait for summer
