How do I move my iTunes account onto a new laptop?

Asked by desiree333 (3241points) September 19th, 2011

I owned a Dell Inspiron in which I have my iTunes account set up on. Today I bought a MacBook Air and I want to transfer my iTunes account onto my new laptop. I read something about de-authorizing or something but I am not sure how to do it right. I absolutely DO NOT want to lose all my music and movies because I have lots and spent a lot of time getting all of it. I also am worried that it will only save the media I have purchased, which isn’t much. How can I transfer my iTunes account onto my new laptop without losing anything?

Oh and P.S I do not own an external hardrive. I do not want to buy one because university has left me broke. I need a free way that does not require CD’s or DVD’s as my MacBook Air does not have an optical drive…

On itunes store menu click on “authorize this computer.” Sign in. Plug in your ipod and you should be good to go.

I just want to mention I did this last night and my iTunes transferred over but all my songs downloaded from CD’s were deleted.
