How did the execution of the Rosenberg's lead to the beginning of the end of the Second Red Scare?

Asked by Christina070 (111points) February 14th, 2012

I was just reading about this case on the Internet, and I came across some websites that said that the Rosenberg’s execution led to the beginning of the end of the Second Red Scare. I really don’t understand how it led to the end of the Second Red Scare or let alone the end of McCarthyism. Didn’t people at that time get even more scared of communism due to this case?

You have previously asked for help in your history assignments.

Remember this question

And this one

Please define what the “second Red scare” means.

PLease summarize what your research up to now has taught you.

“Lead” is the present tense; “led” is the past.

The Second Red Scare was a period of anti-Communism and fear of Communist espionage in the US which lasted from 1947 to 1957. Its also known as McCarthyism..

Hmm; Sounds similar to this quote from Wikipedia. Source

“The second Red Scare occurred after World War II (1939–45), and was popularly known as “McCarthyism” after its most famous supporter and namesake, Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthyism coincided with increased popular fear of communist espionage consequent to a Soviet Eastern Europe, the Berlin Blockade (1948–49), the Chinese Civil War, the confessions of spying for the Soviet Union given by several high-ranking U.S. government officials, and the Korean War.”

Read the entire article I mentioned (and spend less time paraphrasing) and you will understand some of the issues.

The article doesn’t answer my question at all. Thanks for your time anyways.

You’ve found the next link in your research chain: McCarthyism. See where you can follow that.

Read up about some of the reaction to the Rosenbergs’ execution and that should help you find your answer.
