Did you ever start listening to a song you know in the middle of a "beat" and not recognize the song at all until your brain synchronized with the beat of the song?

Asked by MadisonPaige (285points) March 8th, 2012

This happens to me sometimes and just happened again today. I turn on the radio in my car and I’m listening to a song that I don’t recognize at all. The beat seems a little weird, then suddenly my brain synchronizes with the beat, and it’s a familiar song. Is that weird or what?

That’s not weird, I’ve done it too. I’m weird though, so maybe that doesn’t help…

I’ve done this, yeah. Generally it’s a song I haven’t heard in ages or only in passing. It isn’t too strange, though, as far as I’m concerned.

This has happened to me a couple of times. I start rocking my head to the song and enjoying it.

Then I realize it is Miley Cyrus or some one equally embarrassing. I shut off the radio and look around to see if anybody noticed.

Miley Cyrus is on @Imadethisupwithnoforethought play list. Don’t let him fool ya.
I find this happens more in elevators where they have string quartets playing instrumentals of rock songs from the 70’s.

What happens to me is that I won’t recognize the song until it gets to the chorus. Then, I feel like an idiot.

@chyna clearly is projecting. She has a poster of Billy Ray and listens to “Achey Breaky Heart” in the tub

Yeah! This happens to me a lot.

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought But I’m better than @chyna… I don’t just listen to Billy Ray in the tub, Billy Ray is actually in my tub! Bwuahahaha! I like to wash his mullet for him.

I’m glad that this is a normal thing for people. I don’t feel so stupid now :-)
