Is 2 months to early for a baby to start teething?

Asked by tan253 (2958points) May 30th, 2012

My bubba is 2 months and she recently has started chewing her hands like crazy!
She puts them both in her mouth and just munches and drools all over the place.
I know that this is normal for her age but I have noticed when she cries a lot but doesn’t want the breast I give her the pacifier which calms her but she doesn’t suck it, she bites on it furiously which to me indicates that her gums might hurt – is it possible it could be teething?
Is there a definite way to find out?

Thanks!

It’s possible. Time to get her some teething chewy toys.

Yes it’s normal. Some babies are born with a tooth or two.

She could be teething for sure! You could rub a clean finger along her bottom gums to see if you feel anything popping through.

My son started teething at about 2 months, by the time he was 1 year he had all of his main teeth. Soo glad I didn’t breast feed.

It’s possible. Try giving him a clean cold wash cloth. My nephew loved anything cold on his teeth when he was teething. He loves ice cream, vanilla, not chocolate. The Dr said no chocolate.

My son had two teeth at three months…statistically very early.

My baby started teething at 2 months, first tooth popped up at 4. :) Early, but not unheard of. Some babies are BORN with teeth they said! Can you imagine! Lol

I weaned both my babies at four months (a mistake, looking back,) because they had teeth.

Their adult teeth came in also statistically early; the downside was that they both needed braces because of crowding. Their jaws weren’t quite big enough for all the teeth.
