Are "Help" Give us Feedback" etc. missing from the homepage of Google?

Asked by flo (13313points) June 23rd, 2012

Why would they remove all those things at the bottom of the page?

From what I see, the direct links to those features have been removed from the homepage.
Apparently the route to those links is now More > Even more > Contact us, which takes you to this page.
I’d say they want you see a page full of their products as you scan to the bottom for the “Contact us” link.

@Brian1946 thanks. I suppose you’re right that is the idea, but I don’t know if it is user friendly that way. I wish they would go back.

Also did they remove the language option that used to be to the right of the “I’m feeling lucky”?

@flo

They moved the “Translate” feature from that location to the top item in the “More” menu.
If you’re referring to the option to see Google’s pages in a language other than English, I’ll see if I can find it.

@Brian1946 if you mean the “Translation”, that is where you enter any word/text to get it translated. But let’s say if the default position is in another language, “English” used to be right next to the default language.‘s version of “I’m feeling lucky”.

They are definitely NOT as responsive as a company like Amazon and I find that pretty arrogant an attitude.

If necessary one can find a phone number or IM link to get problems addressed at Amazon and the phone line is staffed during regular business hours.

I have yet to find anything similar for Google.

Several weeks ago I was locked out of my Gmail acct. (As well as the App Store fromy tablet) and there was nothing I could do. My Gmail acct has been my primary email addy ever since gmail was first established over 10. years ago. Ansd I could not access it from either my iPhone or my tablet even tho both are synced to it. and couldn’t access my email that way unless they were in physical possession of my phone and tablet.

Fortunately after several days I was able to change my password through some links to apps posted by someone else on an Android site. It was only after that that I found an email from Google stating that they required the password change because my acct. had been attempted access several failed Times from an IP address in Kosovo. An obvious hacker attempt which was presumably highlighted by their security algorithms or whatever.

I appreciate the info but how did they expect me to be able to read it if I were locked out of. the acct. ?

What made this whole thing more confusing was that this whole incident occurredediately after the ICS upgrade ony tablet so I thought mistakenly that was the cause.

Ive definitelylost a degree of my previous Google love. while I appreciate the security measure, the lack of a convenient contact method was extremely and needlessly confusing and frustrating. Grrrrr

The option to change Google’s display language is at the bottom of the page linked to the “You” tab:

And by the way “Help” may not always be there. I found at the bottom of one page:
“Advertising ProgrammesBusiness SolutionsPrivacy & Terms+GoogleAbout GoogleGo to Google.com”.
@Buttonstc All I can say is I feel for you. I don’t think anyone would be interested in hacking into mine, there is nothing tempting there.
@Brian1946 thanks again. Why they don’t see this is not the way to go is beyond me.

@flo

Why they don’t see this is not the way to go is beyond me.

Offhand, I can’t explain why they do that, so I just attribute it to the compulsive tweaking with which some administrative/corporate types are afflicted.

I expected to find the play icon in green in the logo was functional by the way.

I think the rationale is that you won’t know that you need help and you won’t be in a position to give feedback until you’ve actually attempted to use a Google product. That’s why it’s still at the bottom of every other page, but not the homepage (which is what you see before you’ve tried doing anything).

Ha ha. Theres nothing tempting in mine either. I refuse to have any of my financial dealings (banking, etc. ) in any online form, email included.

But I think the primary reason scammer types want to hack into others email acct. is to use them to send spam. At least thats what I read somewhere.

Okay, it is all back to normal now. Good thing, I honestly thought I was looking at a fake Google site.

Thanks all for answering.
