How can photos just appear on my iPad?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) July 23rd, 2013

This is really weird. There is only me that uses my iPad. I haven’t done anything to it.

By the time tea I cooked tea and cleaned up, I have pictures on my iPad that weren’t there before. They are pictures that are on the laptop, but its only 5 of them, not the whole lot. I really don’t get it.

How can this possibly happen?

Weird. Did it somehow sync with your laptop?

Headhurts's avatar

Not with anything connecting to it to help it no. Unless it was psychic.

How did you find them? Were they some kind of screen saver? Perhaps they’re just sample images. I’m a Windows user, but I’ve never bought any kind of computer that didn’t come with sample images, desktop, screensaver, etc.

They were in the middle of my photos on the iPad.

They are photos that are on the laptop. I haven’t connected them to sync to each other. They just appeared.

Are both devices using PhotoStream or the iCloud?

BosM's avatar

Do you use iCoud? With Photo Stream a photo on one device can be pushed to all of your other devices. Shared Photo Streams lets you pick which photos to share and with whom. Could a friend or family member be accessing these services?

Check this link for mor information. Good Luck

Assuming you have an Apple computer @hearcat is correct.

On your iPad go to Settings> iCloud> and tap on Photo.
Check to see if Photo Stream is turned on.

If so shutting it off will stop the computer from syncing.

On a side note- if you do have them syncing you can also have the photos you take with your iPad/iPod or iPhone automatically save to your computer by opening iPhoto preferences and checking photostream and automatic import. Unchecking Automatic Upload will stop the images on your computer from entering your Photo Stream.

Note: To save your images to your computer from the iPhone/iPad/iPhone you will need to open iPhoto at least once every 30 days.

The laptop isn’t Apple. Both devices have iCloud. Does this mean that if you view a picture on the laptop, I will automatically receive it on my iPad?

hearkat's avatar

@Headhurts: It depends on your sync settings on those devices. Log into the iCloud from your computer and check the settings you have for syncing photos.

@hearkat So can it sync without doing anything?

hearkat's avatar

Yes, if you’ve given it permission to do so when you first switched over to iCloud.

Ok, sorry, I know I’m annoying because I don’t get all this, but, I have had the ipad since October, I havent changed anything on it and it hasn’t happened before, so why now?
