Apple to provide police with disarming camera mode?

Asked by pleiades (6617points) August 22nd, 2013

Ok a professor from my college on FaceBook is posting random things.

this came across

It’s about how Apple is supposedly going to provide a disarming device to police to shut off cameras?

I’ve never heard of that website until today.

The TSA folks would especially love it because they are one of the most prolific violators, abusing the very young, the very old, the infirm and disabled, not to mention ordinary folks.

Sounds like a good idea to carry a second camera that would not be vulnerable to such invasive tricks, and yet the photos or video could be downloaded at a later time.

That article doesn’t cite any sources whatsoever. I’m no Apple fan, but that’s inconclusive at best, and the picture used does nothing to add to its credibility.

@DeanV You’re right it’s most likely Conservative propaganda but whyyyy haha so lame.

This was rumored years ago. But I heard it was mainly going to be used to block recording of live concerts.

Nothing ever came from it. It was just a patent filed a long time ago that was never actully implemented. With the batshit crazy going on with patents now you file for every little thing even if you never intend on using it.

Of course the same tech could be used to do the opposite – turn on a devices camera and have it start transmitting pics and video to the police. Just think how useful that would be. But just because something is possible doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen.

Sounds like another good reason NOT to buy an iPhone

Sort of like a “fuzz-buster” in reverse.
