Have you often hurt someone's feelings with your words(whether they deserved it or not )and then felt awful?

Did you sit and think about it and regret it or did you feel chuffed with yourself?

Yes I told my best friend in university to F off in a chat room and I regret that she did. I haven’t talked to her in 14 years.

I haven’t often, I had done it just a few times when I was younger and felt so bad afterwards that I stopped.

I am not someone who says mean things, it’s just not in my nature, so when I do, it sticks out and I remember it for a long time.

The worst one for me is back when I was in high school- about 26 years ago. I had just “been found” by my very affluent dad and been spoiled with a new wardrobe twice over. Without thinking, I told a girl who didn’t have any access to money that she needed a new wardrobe. I saw her eyes and immediately felt bad—and remember it even today. The rich dad didn’t last, he disappeared again a year later.

More times with co-workers and in my personal relationships than I can count—often unintentionally (as in thinking I’m making a joke), but not infrequently with malice aforethought or in a momentary fit of temper. I regret every single time I did it.

If I hurt someone’s feelings, I generally do feel bad. I then go and apologize for what I said.

I always feel bad when someone is hurt by my actions or words. It’s not in my nature to be rude or hurtful, but even the sweetest person can be pushed to their limit.
