Do you have any funk music to recommend?

Asked by deni (23141points) September 29th, 2014

I love funk music from the 60s-70s-80s, especially Bootsy Collins, Parliament, The Meters, Ohio Players Club, etc all the big names really. But I’d like to explore some lesser known funk which there’s got to be some of! I listen to a lot of funk playlists on Spotify but mostlyyyyyy it tends to be the same sort of stuff on all them, most of which I’ve heard a zillion times (not that it ever gets old).

But, in generally I am just looking for some more really funky upbeat weird stuff (like Bootzilla for example), just wondering if anyone has any groovy suggestions. Thanks!!!!!

If you haven’t already, you could check out some of the funk-jazz stuff, like old Herbie Hancock or Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

Here you go. See if any of these aren’t on your list.

Sly and the Family Stone used to live on a street 2 blocks from me. They would practice in the house, and it was LOUD!
