Anyone here with anxiety recognize or have this strange symptom?

Asked by tan253 (2958points) June 8th, 2015

So, I do have an anxiety disorder, I’ve had it for years now.
Recently it’s been almost non existant but I guess given last night it’s still there.

I had anxiety this week as my daughter is staying extra nights at her Dads, last night, I woke up to this loud ringing in my ears – I have tinnitus and lately it’s been really loud.

I also awoke to strange sinking sensations like I was falling asleep but my brain felt like electricity was charging through it – so awful.

I finally did fall asleep and it didn’t happen again, but it did happen a few times before I was able to fall asleep.

I figured if it were something dangerous I’d still have it this morning – I feel fine, tired and a bit shaky.

It was like someone was banging cymbals loudly in my brain whilst I was standing to close to electricity at the same time as being on a boat and sinking under the waves…

Any thoughts?

Sounds like anxiety. Try a cup of chamomile tea or some yoga breathing.

Sounds like an auditory hallucination of sorts.

Have you been around loud noise on a constant basis?

I use to be in a band for years, which is where the tinnitus comes into play. But no not around loud noises, I did have the dehumidifier on all night but turned it off… I also heard a very loud BANG! just before the weird noises started happening, but believe it or not I suffer from the weird disorder called ‘brain snaps!’

Just not sure if this strange noise was related?

You might want to see a doctor. It doesn’t hurt to be safe.

If they happen again I will, I think it was like a night terror, I get those all the time unfortunately and as it was happening, I was struggling to wake up. so frustrating just when you think you’re finally on top of everything…

Have you begun taking or stopped taking or changed the dosage of any medications recently? In any event I would recommend you do not delay but arrange to speak with your doctor. I would also be concerned about your husband’s drinking and I would try to find out how he behaves when he has custody of your daughter.

Good point about medication. Do you take anti-anxiety drugs like Xanax?

I do take xanax but only on occasion and I didn’t the night before. Everything was normal last night, I was awoken by loud bangs again but I’ve had that forever and I think it’s hypnagogia I believe it’s called.

Auditory hallucinations are a part of it.
I have been to a DR so many times about this and they all say the same thing : anxiety.
I’ve had all my bloods taken only a month ago and have an x-ray of my abdomen so I think he’ll honestly just send me away.
Besides I did say to him only last week that I was getting my weird brain sensations again and he just smiled.

Anyway thanks for your help!
I don’t think it’s a brain tumor as I’ve had this for about15 years, the same time I’ve had anxiety.

I get auditory noises when I’m around loud noises too much. I try to wear earplugs in Zumba class, at movies, etc. Maybe stress increases the chances for me too? I never thought about. Yours sounds more extreme.
