How much do I owe?

Asked by CharlesThomas26 (1points) January 30th, 2016

I am trying to find out how much more I owe in back taxes. I have been paying on it for about ten years. The original amount was 6629.00. Need to know what my balance is?

Nobody here can guess the amount of your payments, how often you make them, or whether your outstanding liability has been accruing interest over the years. We don’t even know whether you’re asking about federal income tax, state income tax, local real estate tax, etc.

I urge you to find a telephone number for the appropriate taxing agency and call for an answer. After you’ve reached the right party, you should get the information quickly. Please let us know what happens.

Haven’t you kept any records? Hasn’t the IRS been sending you statements reflective or your payments and current balance? Something sounds fishy to me. Contact the IRS and ASK them to verify your current amount still owed.

I hope you haven’t been sending your payments to Zimbabwe. lol

That is a very long time to pay back 6K. I realize they probably added a penalty and interest, but that should have been paid long ago unless you are only paying $5.00 a month.
You should have paper work, a monthly statement, or something to show your balance. If not, call the IRS and ask.

@Coloma Hi, Laurie! No, @CharlesThomas26 hasn’t been sending his payments to Zimbabwe. As I mentioned in a recent Meta thread, all funds go to my fiance, Crown Prince Nagaswani of Nigeria.

You’ve made a leap of faith to federal income taxes and the IRS. But, @CharlesThomas26 didn’t tell us what type of tax liability he owes (federal, state, or local and income tax or other).

@Love_my_doggie Haha…I guess my leap was pretty boundless ey” lol

Only ten years? Are you seriously asking us to guess what your balance is. I sugggest called the IRS.

I’m a bit worried about that telephone scam that has been going around. Where the scammers pose as the IRS office and tell people they owe money and get them to send it to them. I have my fingers crossed that this isn’t that.

@CharlesThomas26 You need to ring the tax department and ask them. Seriously. Is it city or state or federal tax? If you haven’t been getting at least yearly statements, you really really need to make some phone calls.
