What is your opinion on continuation of assistance to Pakistan by US Govt.?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) February 11th, 2016 from iPhone

Especially after statement given by Headley to Indian court of law through VC it was ISI which helped / planned attacks in Mumbai. ISI is Pakistan secret agency funded by Pakistani Govt. There are also elements in Pakistani military who are supporting Taliban directly or indirectly. So indirectly US Govt. is helping terrorists to fight against itself. What is your opinion about this?

Personally, I believe the US should have left Pakistan to its own devices some 40 years back. We have in effect bought em their nukes and effectively financed hordes of misfits directly opposed to our own interests. Beyond the fact that those innumerable billions have stabilized as corrupt and detestable a set of governments as can be named, the only visible improvement purchased with all that loot is Pakistan’s enhanced skills at extorting more money from its goofy Uncle Sam.

We don’t help Pakistan because we like Pakistan.

We send them money because if we didn’t then Russia, China, or Iran would. Even with their assistance to Taliban, they’re still strategically better as our sort-of-sometimes allies than as our sworn enemies (again… Russia… iran…. China)

Things are never as simple as they seem.

That’s probably the precise argument by those on the receiving end of that bottomless tap skimming their way toward the land of the billionaires. My question is why not let Russia, China or Iran have them? What do we lose?

Do you think China is not having good relations with Pakistan? Chinese will do everything to make sure India is on it’s toes by helping Pakistan out.

My personal opinion is that we should cease all overseas assistance, including military hardware, software and killware, until we take care of our own. Once we have taken care of our own problems then anything then left over can go improve the lives of those in other countries
