Hope. Or delusion . Most likely boredom.

Because they want to..

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

Still? That would suggest they ever existed.

Yes I line my driveway with them every Christmas Eve. Very festive.

Lovely @Cruiser. Nice to see you by the way. I saw an illuminati device advertised on the TV the other day. I was tempted to sign up for the deal.

Cruiser's avatar

Good to see you too @Earthbound_Misfit I fear I may confused Illuminati with Luminaries ~

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

And I thought you meant something like this. Although it’s not got a lot of illuminati potential.

@Earthbound_Misfit I have those as well and all part of the effect! Only 4 months to go! Life is too short to try and wrap my head around this Illuminati craziness. I will now think of these mysterious Illuminati people standing in large sand filled bags on fire lining my driveway….works for me!

People Humans have this need to believe that all or most problems in the world can be traced to one single source.
You can easily see it in fiction. The adversary in movies and television is usually one single person, even in cases where there is an army to fight.
Be it Skynet from Terminator, the Brainbug from Starship Troopers, or the Borg Queen.
That is because if you can trace the problems to one single source, you only have to remove the source to solve all the problems. It simplifies things in their brains.
Take the depiction of police corruption in Netflix’ “Daredevil”. It can all be traced back to the Kingpin, and once his influence is excised, the police is purified again.
In the real world of course, the corruption is systemic.

@ragingloli You nailed it….“Humans have this need to believe that all or most problems in the world can be traced to one single source.”

Some people simply have chicken brains.

It serves as some sort of an explanation to what you simply don’t understand and which seems strange and disturbing (especially of you are a bit dumb), and also why bad things happen in your life. Instead of solving the problems or simply Googleing shit, let’s make ourselves look like victims and toss the ball to someone else.

You live so horrible because you are a victim. You are manipulated and trapped. It was all carefully staged by some shady, vague, foreign organization.

Because you are so fucking important. Having you out of control is the end of the world. It is crucial for them to keep you under control.

Beyonce dances so strange, she must be possessed by the devil. Britney Spears shaved her head and had several scandals, she is actually fighting the system. Gaga is strange and creepy, she is totally an Illuminati puppet. People really like Pokemon, they must be some demons possessing the children (and for God’s sake THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!).

No such things as being artistic, having mental issues, or simply being in a fandom. That seems too easy and, you know, sensible, to accept.

Life is too short and easy not to think like this, for some people.

We don’t think that; we know the Illuminati don’t exist. Hell they changed their name to The Trilateral Commission years ago, and now they are known as the Carlyle Group.

For some reason from the start of this century there has been this over-hype about conspiracy theories. I remember the good old days when mostly people believed in aliens being hidden in Area 51.

The illuminati did at one time exist, but not in the way conspiracy theorists would have you believe. It all starts with what the word illuminati means, which is derived from the Latin word illuminatus (meaning enlightened). They were actually a group of deists, who were strongly opposed to corruption of organised politics and religion. They were a secret group and many of their philosophies were no different from those shard by the hacktivist group “Anonymous”. Only the illuminati clearly didn’t have their technology as they disbanded in 1787.

I don’t normally like citing Wikipedia, but it’s article on the illuminati is actually very good and very concise. The illuminati were not this sort of underground mob style group that removed certain members of society. In fact they were very string proponents for free speech and expression. They were actually opposed to oppression.

Why do you think that the Illuminati don’t exist?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they did = as @zenvelo said, they have morphed and have had different names, but it is all plausible.

Frankly, the politicians in US (and most Western countries) are so craven and short-term based that a Trilateral Commission made up of a bunch of long-term thinkers is not such a bad idea.

As a follow up. The illuminati are clearly not running Facebook. But Anonymous have the power to hack it and probably forcfully shut the entire thing down. They’ve shut down online services in the past and tapped into CIA mainframes.

Whatever corruption you are seeing on Facebook is most likely due to the existing policies in place, and some distrustful employees. All in all Facebook is not the worst tech company. They have some questionable policies I will admit. But I don’t think I need remind you how Marissa Mayer is running Yahoo into the ground. Sooner or later the entire company will be owned by Verizon. There is no conspiracy with tech companies, some just have really bad management.

Sure, go ahead and trivialize it. That is what They want you to do…..

“Yes, there is a conspiracy, indeed there are a great number of conspiracies, all tripping each other up… the main thing that I learned about conspiracy theories is that conspiracy theorists actually believe in the conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is chaotic. The truth is, that it is not the Jewish banking conspiracy, or the grey aliens, or the twelve-foot reptiloids from another dimension that are in control, the truth is far more frightening; no-one is in control, the world is rudderless.” – Alan Moore
