How to control GERD without medication?

Asked by tan253 (2958points) April 2nd, 2018

Hi Guys,
I was diagnosed with H pylori – took antibiotics and it was eradicated, however, I’ve been left with severe reflux at night time only, when I lie down.
I’ve had this symptom on and off for about 10 years, so kinda paranoid now that it might be causing erosion or worse.
I was on omeprazole 10mg, but it’s not working so have gone off it, I have a scope in 25 days, earliest I could get. Fairly certain they will find something going on in my gut and fairly nervous, but any tips on what I can do between then and now? I’m not eating very much, not eating 4 hours before bed, no coffee, no irritants, just a very angry gut that I want to calm down. I also get referred pain so no burning in my gut or anything just a horrible pain in my back… thoughts, advice for those that have gone through some similar.
NB: Not looking for medical advice, just personal advice on what you did.

Raise the head of your bed about 1½ to 2 inches.
Stop eating spicy foods.
Stop drinking acidic liquids, like coffee.
When you have heartburn, mix 1 tsp. of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it.
