What is the purpose of the small pinhole found in many locker locks next to the key hole? It’s a drain hole to allow rain water and condensation to drain out from around the spring under the hasp.

In addition to what @Inspired_2write posted, water drainage from the lock is important in freezing weather, because water expands when it freezes.

It also serves as an injection port for lock lubricant.

There is a small button inside for a factory reset, in case you lose your password.

It’s for the insertion of a small wire to hold the pins up against spring pressure when a locksmith can picks the lock.

Been out all day with my daughter & so missed this.
Being a locksmith myself, this would’ve been right in my wheelhouse, but I see Google has already done my job for me, nowt more to add!

@ucme For once and for all, who are correct then, the reset Jellies or the drainage Jellies?

ucme's avatar

Both are true, although It’s less of a reset & more a case of re-keying!
I won’t bore you with the details, my work is not as exciting as it may seem, although there was that one time… :D
