Absolutely, completely hypothetical question?

Asked by peyton_farquhar (3741points) December 8th, 2008

If one were to hypothetically take in one setting around seventy 20mg pills of prozac, what damage would they do to their body? Not that I know anybody who did that, honest.

All signs lead to death, I’d say.

You, or this hypothetical person, should seek medical help ASAP!

You could Google prozac…

overdose, not pleasant, extremely painful, most likely fatal.

Hope you arenot considering taking that action. Your liver and/or kidneys could be permanently damaged.
Do youneed to talk to someone?

Hey, let me shed some rational light onto this. Overdoses are serious, but unlikely to be fatal. Gastrointestinal side effects are most prominent, but with a severe overdose, a serotonin syndrome could develop.

@cdw: say that the hypothetical person in question took the prozac but then 40 minutes later told somebody and was rushed to the hospital to get charcoaled.

This doesn’t sound like a hypothetical person at all. This person sounds real, although maybe not the asking jelly.

If he got charcoaled within an hour; hopefully most of the drugs were removed on time.
More importantly, this person needs followup psychiatric care to deal with depression.

I say the prozac would balance out the 50 ecstasy tabs you may have taken in the preceding days.

This is a very scary thread. I had a roommate once who tried to kill herself with a bunch of pills. She lived, but it was touch-and-go for a while—and not pretty. If this post does indeed refer to a real situation, please get help now!

answerjill's avatar

Actually, even if someone is just considering this sort of thing, s/he should get help.

mangeons's avatar

This doesn’t sound hypothetical at all. Are you considering this, or do you know someone who is? It could be fatal. Get help immediately.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, guys. Calm down!

Hypothetical or not? We can’t be sure. So, best to take it seriously.

This is where the idea of an internet-based “community” really gets put to the test. I think that virtual communities like Fluther are a great thing, but can they really replace flesh-and-bone interpersonal contact?

@answer—careful, you might get kicked off with comments like that

@mizuki—the thought never even occured to me
